Consumer Reports'Tips - How Excellent Are They?

This information examines Consumer Studies'2007 recommendations of automobile designs for the Chevrolet, Toyota, Ford, Hyundai, and Kia models to be able to observe how their consistency fared only 36 months later. It goes in to the questions: (1) How great are CR's recommendations? and (2) Is U.S.-based Consumer Studies biased in support of the U.S.-based Basic Motors Company?

Consumer Studies'consistency ratings are extremely respected by many people because they are statistical reports of reported critical issues, or the absence of such, for countless 1000s of vehicles, as gathered from its members within an annual survey. But, must its annual recommendations be accorded related respect? To answer that question, I study a number of CR's 2007 recommendations.

In the April 2007 issue of Consumer Studies, the magazine advised three Chevrolet automobile designs - one wagon, one sedan, and one SUV. They certainly were:

Chevrolet HHR, the wagon 
Chevrolet Impala, the sedan 
Chevrolet Tahoe, the sport-utilityvehicle.

As there were just 3 Chevrolet designs that were advised, people might reasonably have expected that they merited factor and that from one of many designs they might confidently produce a purchase. But, before the three 2007 designs were 3 years of age, all three were on Consumer Studies'2010 Worst Vehicle record, a list based on reported critical problems.

The question arises: Were these only bad, or bad, recommendations, or are they proof of a prejudice in support of U.S.-based Basic Motors Company, owner of the Chevrolet model, by U.S.-based Consumer Studies?

Evidence suggesting a prejudice in support of U.S.-based Basic Motors originates from recommendations of Toyota, Ford, and Hyundai models. For the Toyota model, Consumer Studies'2007 recommendations were:

Toyota Camry, a convertible or coupe 
Toyota Corolla, a small sedan 
Toyota Highlander, a midsize SUV

Toyota RAV4, a small SUV 
Toyota Sequoia, a big SUV 
Toyota Sienna, a minivan 
Toyota Tacoma, a midsize pickup.
