Conflicted

I find myself needing to bully myself into heading back to the river region. I am quite enjoying my time here at the ranch. It is starting to feel like it could, possibly, grow into something bigger than a line item in a financial portfolio. The addition of the cattle owned by the ag lease-holder Hubs tied up with last year takes it from feeling like an unloved investment property to an actual, functioning ranch. The lease-holder uses only the pastures for grazing and is a gentle presence when he or one of his workers come to check on the cattle. It has been a delight to watch the Spring calves growing up.

Hubs has been respectful in the way he has treated the work I did here during 5 months between his father's death in October 2016 and my launch out of here with the weirds of my brother's and mother's deaths. His respect has included regrets for the places he handled ^it^ badly. 2016 and 2017 were rough years. Prolonged illnesses and 3 family deaths created quite allot of chaos for everyone involved.

Hubs speaks of feeling ready to move on developing this property, but every fiber of my wife sense believes he isnae anywhere near ready to relinquish control. The projects will need to micro managed at the convenience of a very busy man. When Hubs and I collaborate on projects, I spend entirely too much time waiting for breaks in his busy schedule and end up throwing away frustrating number of research packets because ? ? ? Does anybody ever REALLY know why muckety mucks do what they do? "Because *They* said so." is my go-to summary of executive orders, even when *I* am the boss. Maybe especially then. My construction crew management did earn me the nickname, "Bitch of No Return," after all. I have been much gentler in my handling of muckety mucks since I retired from that job in 1995. There are valid reasons bosses get paid more.

My wife sense also tells me that there are strong and valid reasons that Hubs needs to take his time and maintain control of the developments here. Co-ownership of this property with his one surviving brother is pretty much all he has left of his family. The bond between the two family branches isnae strong enough for cousins to feel comfortable visiting cousins without the formal events which have been their only bond. The MIL/FIL maintained such tight control of those events that none of us know how, or if to proceed now that they are both gone. There are other branches of the family tree sprinkled throughout this area, but those bonds are even weaker. It's allot to sort and my wife sense is urging me to let it be his to sort in his own time and his own way.

The rising afternoon temps are reminding me of the primitive construction and sorry condition of this house. It wasnae comfortable in the mild North Texas winter and will be even less comfortable through the lethal summer heat. The condition of the building compells me to believe that upgrades to the house will be a waste of time and money. It is unsound from foundation to roof. Of course rennovation is possible, but not while the building is occupied. The floors would need to be taken out, completely. Possibly the roof and ceilings, as well. The rennovation would be more expensive and time consuming than building a new structure.

But for now, I am enjoying the lab, the harvesting of wild herbs for the lab, etc., etc. Convincing myself to load the truck for the drive back to the river region is proving difficult. Why fix what ain't broke?

Sorting. . . The bullying action is geared toward getting myself on the northbound road Monday morning.

Big hug for you sweetie..... You and your husband have had so much to contend with over the last couple of years..... I remember well when I lost my folks and it's such an overwhelming time

It's nice that you can take some to decide what you both want for the future..... I lived in Texas (Corpus Christi) for a year and those summers are wicked.... I'm a Toronto girl so I'm used to chilly

It's nice that you're enjoying the lab while you take some time to sort...... Another hug......xo

Corpus isn't just hot. It has that salty Gulf swelter action going on. Like an annual, 6 month sauna. Well. . . The sauna only 6 months in the cold years. I feel like a masochist for all the time I spend in hot, humid swamps. Adding in the salty air of the coast gets me itching.

Been distilling wild yarrow in the lab. At least I think it's wild yarrow. It isn't blooming yet and plants have an infinite capacity for fooling know-it-all humans.

Happy Mother's Day
Thinking of you as part of my basking in glory moment... For the past 6 weeks I have been working at an elementary school, putting in 5 hour days opposed to my usual 3. the work was a little more intense but we got a 15 minute break. the kitchen only had 3 of us workers to do what I think could be a 4 people list of jobs. I am use to working with more people then needed to do about the same job list. I was a temporary replacement for a Black Beeach that had been making the kitchen work bad to miserable for a few co-workers for about a year or so. the union we work with lets us rotate around the opened job positions for the 130 schools in this district on a sonority ranked bases. I had worked with BB before in another bigger high school kitchen that trained me about 6 years ago. we did not work close enough to for me get to know her. she has been working in about 3 different schools over the six years since then and has moved on again. So I got to fill her post for these past 6 weeks and helped make it a happier kitchen to work in. Friday was my last day there and the end of teacher's appreciation week. the teachers shared their special lunch with us. I had a great chicken pecan salad with cranberry dressing and my co worker who got what looked like a great hamburger, gave me a going away gift. made it feel like a going away party. the cup she gave me said "I survived being a Lunch Lady" she had the school name "@ Gallaher" added to the cup. the card was all glittery and asked "How are you SO AWESOME? seriously HOW? inside "GOODNESS like yours can't be explained... just appreciated.". I told her she was AWESOMER, the cook giggled and repeated Awesomer
Today thinking of all this and how you & Hubs like new words I started thinking how Awesomer would rhyme well with glossamer and that made me think of your glossamer photo album. I am thinking " your glossamer and butterfly pictures are AWESOMER than any I have ever seen"
Love you
Your Twisted Sister

Your creative spellings remain one of my favorite things about you, Twisted Sister. Awesomer than awesomest. I'll probably never be able to take another gossamer shot without thinking about your glossamer. The big surprise for me was "glossamer" is almost a word for "lubricant."

Your school year is over? How 'bout the grandtwins? Making any vacation wish lists yet?

school year is done in the middle June, I will be going back to old school and hours next week.
the girls might be going the London this summer. their new daddy to be, knows some people there and was talking about going. I have met him a few times and he seems like a good person. I don't know the schedule yet. this might be my first summer without them. maybe I will get a week, don't know.

I was thinking gloss like shiny lip stuff but I guess lip gloss means- greasy lips... I suppose that explains why spell correct had no suggestions for correcting me... and why I have never bought lip gloss. the spiders might like a little gloss to their Goss or would that let the flies slip away?
