Colostrum and my theories
I have been looking for answers from day 1 from the doctors. They have given me wishy washy drool over the cause of the disease. After failing to control it using their medications, I turned to natural ways of treating it. It worked for awhile and then failed again (possibly because of my antibiotic treatments).
During the course of all this I must have caught something that was making it worse. Bacteria, virus, protozoa, unknown...who knows. All I know is that it was like food mild food poisoning every day, a nightmare of sorts. I told my GI doctor that I was experiencing sour smelling diarrhea. Mom told me when I was a kid, a sour stomach means you got a bug. No doubt about it, the doctor should have looked into it.
I tried the prednisone and it worked, as long as it was in my blood system. As soon as it wore off, I was sick again. After getting off the taper, the symptoms got incredibly worse. They sent me to the cancer center to talk about suppressing my immune system even more with Remicade, Imuran etc.
What I think happened on the prednisone is that whatever was making the UC worse, was given time to incubate, if you will. Free reign to multiply and take residence in my colon. As I weened off the prednisone, my body attacked it and hence the terrible bleeding and toxin wash. I again looked at the loop of symptoms and it seems much clearer to me.
I have taken colostrum on and off again. Usually, I take it and I get much sicker so I stop taking it. This time I stuck through the heavy part and noticed that my bowel movements slowed down. Only time will tell how much of an improvement I will make, but for the most part I feel that I moved a few steps closer to eliminating symptoms.
I also predict in the following years that evidence will suggest a link between bacteria and IBD. Specifically Mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis in Chron's and Enterotoxigenic bacteroides fragilis in UC patients.
