Cold

The sleepathon does appear to be behind me, but I still havenae been able coax myself out of the house much. My bold statements about how the human body is fully capable of adapting to cold are coming back to haunt me. Even inside the house, with the thermostat set to 65 degrees farenheit, my fingers and toes are still chilling enough to send me diving for the covers after a few hours of exposure. I am reminding myself to be patient with the process. Adapting takes time. It has been decades since I have gone this long without a day fit for sunbathing.

The Tower Garden is looking good enough to give me a spot of confidence that I really can put together an aeroponics lab. Maybe. . . If the building ever gets built. The contractor tells me his guys have been calling in sick and his work schedule is behind because of it. We are still reasonably well within the contracted time frame, but. . . Toes tapping impatiently. . . Healing prayers for his crews.

I feel a little less wimpy now. I checked that thermostat again and br-r-r-r-r. . . It's 55 in here. I've camped in colder, but. . . I eventually discovered that the furnace blowing cold air. Sigh. . . Waiting for offices to open. . . I hate waiting.

U are definitely in the BBBUUUURRRR zone at 55. I turn my oil heat off at night so the furnace doesn't kick on...makes noise...even ref turning on can trouble my sleep at times.

Anyway, I run for coffee/feed Chachi and am back in bed until my hands are not frozen. I also share a dislike of leaving my home, the cold just adds to this isolation dilemma as it leads to depression...I need 'human' contact.

Hoping the contractors will 'do their thing' so you can do yours :) Actually, if you ever want a boarder, I'm looking for a 'tiny house' and the astrolabe sounds Wonderful...especially the outside stairs :) humm maybe not if you get snow...too slippery...at our age broken hips scare the dickens out of me!! But the tiny house is a dream...don't want condo or apt...too much noise up down sideway.

Venturing out of bed for coffee and heat at 1030...usually completed in 2.5 minute, coffee taking 2 to heat water! After my 'maniacal brain day' yesterday l am planning my day today around meditation music, and marathon knitting...still have 2' to go before Christmas for dear son's blanket....hoping to get done before sleep tonight!

I am hoping it is just an ignition switch, or valve. I don't know if you remember a few years ago when my new to me junk house had a furnace failure. The weather was a balmy -22 in the middle of a polar vortex. Of course the repair men were happy but 7 days with no heat other than portable heaters was not funThat was the first time I heard that used outside of a movie (The Day After Tomorrow, 2004), It did inspire a few B movies too. . I hate it when Mother nature gets her bloomers in a bunch.

By the way did you shop for real weather clothes? Thermals, sweats and flannels?
Sunbathers here do venture out in 55 degree weather in tees here, or golf, but only in Dec and Jan. since it feels summer-ish then. Never in the summer with those same temperatures, it's a mindset seasonal thing.
I guess we do get acclimated but you can't convince me when the cold has sunk into the bone. It takes 3 times as long to warm up, and it will sap your energy to maintain a body heat of 98.6 when the air is 40 degrees or more cooler. Layer up.
Hugs and support.
J.

My favorite sleeping temperature is 50-55.

(The kids won't let me. I do have electric heat in the house and it's shut off in my bedroom, if it's cold outside, it probably gets to about 60 in here. The master bath is by agreement the sauna of the house ...probably 80 in there...so the heat bleeds out. Kids are GOOD at keeping the door closed, because I've promised to shut the heat off if they leave that door open. My son's room (also door closed) is about 75. The rest of the house about 63-64.)

I once had a roommate that liked it about 35. No kidding...35...and would sleep with the window's open in the winter. THAT was way too cold. That said, we got along fairly well. I think that she knew that almost no one else liked it that cold, and was happy that I (mostly) went along with it.
