Christo-centrism

CAUTION: contains anti-religion rant.  DS - why are you celebrating Easter?  Are there no Jewish members here celebrating Purim?  Passover?  What's the deal here?  Is there some Xtian underpinning I was unaware of?  Why have I seen no well-wishing from this site honoring other spiritual traditions?  Why have I not seen any acknowlegment of Hindu or Buddhist or Islamic observances?  This isn't about being PC, it's about objecting to the oblivious tyranny of the majority - in this case, the majority religion in this culture.  It's just a freakin' basket with pastel ovals in it, but it pisses me off.  Once again, the religious mainstream gets its moment of acknowledgment and everyone else goes unrecognized.  So why is it that many of the Xtians I know are among the first to feel persecuted when this bias gets pointed out to them?   A friend of mine is always quick to point out to me that there is the secular holiday and the sacred one, that the two aren't the same, that my baggage doesn't have to be attached to both.  No matter, for me the one evokes the other and once again brings up for me all the bullshit I walked away from when I left the church.  I resent the reminders.  I am angry at the arrogance of "one way" theology and the way it seeps into almost every aspect of public life ASSUMING IT IS WELCOME every where it shows up.  It's not that I begrudge anyone a belief in anything that comforts them.  What I resent is the favoring of one over all others.  Either every single tradition should get its little "happy whatever" icon on the home page, or none of them should.  Xtians, both sacred and secular, have quite the party in this culture.  As the atheist neighbor who really isn't interested in attending (and who also doesn't eat babies), I am wishing that they would be more considerate of the rest of us and at least keep the noise down.
