Christmas Packages Containing Memories

So my grandma sent me a package for Christmas. I picked it up from the post office today. I knew there were clothes for the baby in it, but I didn't know what else she had stashed in there. I found all kinds of goodies. 2 ornaments for Jason and me to celebrate our first Christmas as a married couple, an ornament for Lily's first Christmas, a book for Lily, way more adorable clothes than I expected, and a little ziploc bag. Inside the bag was a bottle of perfume. Grammy loves sticky notes, there was a pink one in the bag that said "Leftover from Grandma Vi. Still smells like her..." I quickly opened it and sprayed it on my sweater, and sure enough, there it was. A scent that hadn't touched my nose since 2005. It was glorious. My heart broke for about a second, then it swelled up in joy at having the smell again. I missed it so much. I'm still sitting here inhaling deeply, just to smell it a little more. Now I can hold onto this little bottle and let Lily smell it, and tell her that is what her great great granny Vi smelled like. Sweet and beautiful. I don't know if my grandma knows how much this means to me, but I intend to thank her every time I talk to her. Holidays are hard without granny Vi. We used to spend them with the whole family at her little house in FL. Since she passed away, the family has split apart. We hardly see or talk to each other at all. Now I have a small piece of her. I'll definitely be wearing this perfume on Christmas day.
