Christchurch earthquake shaken us all

I expect my friends on here who read this will have seen the earthquake report on our TV.  Coming so close to our mine disaster the nation is shaken.  You know how it is, texts and emails, concerns for family.   My son sometimes spends time in Christchurch as part of his "boot camp" support for the military but stays at Burham Military camp (he himself is a social worker with an NGO (Non Government Organisation) so would have been safe even if there.  All my friends and relatives safe.
But our beautiful buildings in the centre of Christchurch are looking unsalvagable.  Lovely spire of Cathedral gone. It is suggested there might have been sightseers in building at time...you would never know looking at the pile of rubble.  So hope not true.  38  confirmed dead at time of writing but there are more unidentified bodies.  One sad story of mother with babe in arms who ran from building only to be killed by falling masonry but the baby survived....Have UK friends leaving this weekend (due back with me on Friday) who did their circuit with S. Island first - bet they are glad they chose that direction.
Puts all else into perspective.  Have been having trouble with eyes and one in particular. Saw doctor yesterday dreading to hear about more RA stuff, autoimmune etc and told I had a "foreign body" embedded in cornea and sent straight to eye clinic where removed under a local.  Eye very sore today but can see out of other to type and just so grateful it sorted so instantly and wasnt any more permanent something to live with.
So now back to TV/radio for updates...
