In the year 1940, the people of the Port of Spain would play in Carnivals in representation of their neighbourhoods. Initially using metal buckets, containers and cans with bamboo tubes was a percussion accompaniment for dancing and singing. A widely known and recognised group at the time which was called ‘Alexander’s Ragtime Band’ from the Newtown neighbourhood, they paraded on the roads during carnivals with all metal and nonmelodic instruments in 1939.
Caribbe were just perfect at the drinks reception as were the Bayswater Blasters for the dinner. Happily the guests took ages to walk in / get seated so they were treated to lots of carols from the girls, and we still managed to get them away by 8.30 which was good. I just wanted to say that the band you engaged to play at my party yesterday evening was wonderful! They played beautifully, and for the entire evening and were a delight to have with us.
I just wanted to contact you to thank you for the people you sent to us, they were really good and provided the anticipated wow factor to our party. Your ladies were good fun, great entertainment and happy to get involved in events and help out. Please send them our thanks and appreciation for providing such marvellous entertainment.
