Childhood story remembered!
I was in the first grad and sitting in the last desk in the first row from the right. There was a girl who sat in front of me and her name was Karen.
I remembered every friday afternoon, if we had been good kids and studied hard all week, our reward was a movie in the auditorium at the Catholic school I attended. Usually it was the 3 stooges or a feature film or cartoons.
We always brought our own snacks to eat at the movies, but on this one day, I had forgot to bring anything and had no money on me to buy something so I was devastated at the thought of having nothing to munch on at the movies :(
I asked around to see if anybody had something they wanted to share but nobody did! I was getting desparate! I could not stand the thought of going hungry while watching a film!
I had my back turn to Karen and when I turned back around, I spotted a candy bar on my desk. I knew she had placed it there when I wasn't looking. I picked it up, I looked at it, It looked delicious. I was all happy again. The neurons in my brain went from panic mode to calm and relaxed mode! Sadly enough, I do not remember thanking Karen. She did not take credit for her generousity!
I always remembered how happy that made me and of and on throughout the years I would bump into Karen at a store or event in town but it always seemed like the wrong time and place to mention it.
I recently found Karen on facebook and I told her this story and how I had waited over 50 years to say thankyou!
This was her reply:
"Bob that;s awesome to hear! Isn't it amazing what an impression a small act of kindness can make? Thanks for sharing this story. You made my night!
And 50 years earlier, she made my day!
God Bless!

I was looking at Karen's facebook page and I saw a note where she spoke about the message from me and this was what she said:
I just had THE most wonderful FaceBook message! A school friend I haven't seen for years contacted me to thank me for an act of kindness I showed towards him IN THE FIRST GRADE! Small acts of kindness can last a lifetime. Pay it forward, people. Can't tell you how great it feels to know I touched someone's life so long ago.

Bob: What a great story. I always felt an enormous rush when I helped someone or gave something that someone needed. Karen has class - she is the friend you can count on through the years.
Hope you have been in good health. It is very hot this week and humid in Maryland. We have seen a lot of deer out and about - they don\'t even fear the propane trucks!
Take good care.
We never really stayed in touch Coreen. She and I went in opposite directions so to speak. She married the owner of an ice cream shop and I married someone I wish I hadn\'t married. Being an acoa affected every major decision I made in a negative way so I am glad I can say thanks to someone who had one of the few positive affects on my life so many years ago.
Hugs!
you did an awesome thing.... kudos to you Bob..... we should all strive to pay it foreward...
