Childhood Friend Dies
A childhood friend died this morning. He and I grew up together a quarter of a mile apart in the country. We went to school together from the 1st grade, rode the same bus. As we grew older, we rode motorcycles together all through high school. He eloped with his high school girlfriend and moved to Kentucky. I have a lifetime of memories with him. We hunted together, we swam in his dad's ponds, we fished together and did a lot of crazy stunts as teenagers. This is a very sad day for me.

John accepted Christ in the 1950s. I remember going to his baptism in a creek about 2 miles from my house. He attend church when young but, after he was married and moved to Kentucky, I don't know if he attended much. He would attend when he came back home for a visit however.

"Reds" wife called me this morning and gave me the details of his Celebration of Life. Later this year, on Labor Day Weekend, she is bringing his ashes with her and have a memorial for him here, near the lake that he loved, that we swam in, and fished in. She wants me to say a few words and tell some stories about our life together. I feel honored to be asked to do that.
