CHILD-FREE living "Barbie, was the doll i liked ... a glamourous life, great clothes, a cute boyfrie

People who are child-free:
"Even as kids themselves they have no interest at all in babies or younger kids, and confess even feeling a little repulsed by them.
She shunned baby dolls, “except for Barbie,” she says, “who had a glamorous life with fabulous clothes, a cute boyfriend, and no kids.”  everyone LOVES Barbie.

“Over the years, people dismissed what i said.    They would look at me knowingly—often condescendingly—and tell me I would change my mind,”   the less educated the person was, the more likely it was that they would act like this.  Like cave people.
“People who barely knew me (mainly men) would say I'd make a wonderful mother.”
Those who are very sure of their decision, seek sterilization in their 20s because it makes everything else in their life easier.  Some physicians won't ALLOW this as they fear the person will regret their choice.

“Being childfree is as much of a choice as being a parent,” says Alicia Marsh-Evans, 32, a childless-by-choice seminary student in Texas.

To offer like-minded companionship and support, a thriving subculture of websites and meet-up groups has emerged.   On TheChildfreeLife.com, discussion topics include childfree issues at work and “non-children” (i.e., pets who are your children), among others.
The social group No Kidding boasts dozens of chapters in the U.S. and abroad.   While most espouse a “live and let live” mentality, some groups take a more in-your-face approach to living childfree—a message perhaps best illustrated on this T-shirt, emblazoned with “ Why would I want kids? I’m ENJOYING my life.”
In 1991, there was a study which showed that 75% of the people who had children, if they had it to do over again, would not have any children at all.  Some people that have children are merely looking for a job that they won't be fired from.

Among the many questions parents ask the childfree, a common one is:
“But who will take care of you when you are old?  as old age or the family farm was the REASON to have many children back in the 1800's when social service did not exist at all.
hmmmm, this is the 21st century.  there is no family farm and the truth is that 75% of the people in nursing homes do not have any visitors at all.  you are dreaming.  if that is your reason for having children you are living in another century.
its WONDERFUL if you can end up friends with your kids, but the truth is, its highly unlikely.  parenting is a job and it is something that should be TAUGHT in elementary school, under the title of "caring for other living things".
right now, humans have very little regard for other living things in general.  humans are mostly takers and users - lazy and greedy and at the lowest end, criminal.  its disgusting and depraved the way humans act.  allll other living things are better behaved and have a general regard for others, much more than humans ever have.

"There’s no guarantee that having a child will guarantee care in your old age.  Ask anyone who owns an assisted living or nursing home and they will regale you with tales of relatives of alllll sorts taking any and all money that the older person has and then dropping them off at a nursing home that is subsidized by our government and keeping the money and anything else of value.  as disgusting and depraved as that is, that is reality.

Some child free people claim when they are old they will move to a compound in New Mexico with others who are childfree.
But perhaps L.T. Ciaccio, a childfree lawyer in Manhattan, sums it up best:
“I’d rather live the life I want to for 70 years than sacrifice that time just to hedge my bets at the end.”
A lifetime of freedom to do as one pleases is always the real goal.

I was not childless on purpose. I just couldn\'t get pregnant. Believe me I wanted to be a mother. Had tests done and so did the hubby. But when they got to expensive we quit and decided if it happens it happens, if not then it\'s God\'s will. One day I will ask Him why. I believe that\'s why I always had more than one pet. They were my kids. :)

I remember a survey being done in the 60 or 70\'s which was about the he same percentage. Ignorance is the key word here. There is no guarantee for sure! Thank you for sharing.

there is a grey market for children as well - \"rehomed kids on craigslist and elsewhere, from people who adopted and changed their minds. there are foster kids for adoption. and nowadays they have EMBRYOS that aren\'t used and can be implanted, and can be adopted. all different ways of doing things. the rehoming, leaves out the law pretty completely so its an interesting way to go for people who are outside the age limit withint the legal system.

I\'m lucky in that few people ask me why I don\'t have kids, and when I explain, they don\'t push. *HUGS*
