Checking in with myself

I have to admit that I really thought getting out of bed would feel like a big relief to me.  I thought that since it was such a big issue for me that I would be celebrating every day that I could actually get up.  Well, it's not really like that.  Depression still dominates my thinking and feeling whether I'm up or not.  Still maybe some day I will give myself more credit for my accomplishments, big or small.

Heidi,

You have to give yourself credit for even the smallest accomplishments, I always say baby steps, that\'s all we can do when in the depths of our depression. So getting out of bed is HUGE, me it\'s getting out of my chair, I don\'t sleep in a bed, hurts too much with the arthritis. But don\'t be so hard on yourself.

Get out of bed, count that as one step, if you can take a shower, that\'s another, or if you can pick up a few things, that\'s another. For me I have the worst time picking up the phone to take care of things, overdue bills, getting services, whatever, so if I can make even 2 or 3 calls a week I count that as an accomplishment.

There are times where you can take bigger steps, toddler level, & feel even better, but if you fall or can only take those baby steps still be proud of yourself. I am proud of you!!
