Cheap Taitung Deals, Taiwan
It is clean, spacious, shower gel and shampoo supplied, there is a small bench to place your belongings, more than ample room to change and move around, and a vanity mirror with hair dryer. Even the most popular destinations in Thailand are daily or every 2nd day depending on the airline. And Taiwan really isn't a hot spot for us at all. Only drawback is that winter sees more rain, especially on the East Coast which sadly is very scenic. For 4 days, you should be able to cover most of Taipei's main things – 101 / Night Markets / Xiangshan etc. Cheaper and you get to see more if you're a tourist.
For those looking to go to sun moon lake, if you dont want to stay at the lake itself, I can recommend staying at nearby Puli. There are lots of convenient cheap buses between Puli and the lake. 台東 名產 I took the train to Taichung, then hired a car and went to Qingjing farm, stayed overnight and then drove to Sun Moon Lake. You can easily drive to Sun Moon Lake from Taichung station.
Exact pick-up time will be provided by local operator upon confirmation. Please note the pick-up service cannot accommodate hotels in Neihu, Nangang, Shilin, Beitou, Wenshan District, and New Taipei City area. Get used to the buses, they cover much more than the MRT. Buses are driven by absolute maniacs so get on fast and hold on tightly.
They are honest and use the metre so you know what you are paying for. Taxis are a great back up mode of transport because the MRT and buses won't always take you exactly to where you want to go. I'm after suggestions of a good area to base ourselves in. Ideally somewhere with easy access to major attractions and night markets, but not too busy/crowded. Last year we went to Japan and stayed right in the centre of Shibuya.
I.e., going to Hualien from Sun Moon Lake is no recommended. Balances on Easy cards can be refunded but you have to surrender it and you wont get the $100 TWD you paid at the start, so only use it if you are not coming back and its your final trip. Or another alternative is doing the East Coast of Taiwan.
Just be very careful when riding, as people tend to just take any possible gap and I've definitely had a few near misses. On that note, when hiring scooters, is it compulsory to have an international drivers permit? I have licences for motorbikes, but not an IDP.
We got a ride from Taipei via the west coast through Hualien then onwards to Pingtung, the rail to Kaohsuing and train back up from Kaohsuing to Taipei. Not that bad; alot of chinese do have a very basic command of english. I'd definitely go back given half a chance and Taroko Gorge and Sun-Moon Lake are places highly recommended to hit up.
This car which we have booked at a cheap rate for 8 days will bring us to off-the-beat places in Taiwan. While Taipei is well connected by buses, MRT and train, it’s a little harder to explore Taichung using public transport. Kindness Hotel Taitung Branch, rated with a score of 8.7 from 1,787 reviewers, is one of the most popular hotels in Taitung City. Other top stays include Alicegarden Homestay, with an average rating of 7.9 from 54 reviewers, and Hotel Cham Cham Taitung, with a score of 8.7 from 2,043 reviewers. The main metropolis of the sprawling Taitung County, Taitung City faces the Pacific Ocean and cradles the region’s historical museums, arts centres, lakes and parks. With charming islands just offshore and botanical gardens nearby, there are plenty of ways to connect with culture and nature.
Sky Walk with cloud view throughoutThe walk from the south entrance ended at a touristy food court, located near Green Green Grassland. We ordered some simple Taiwan dishes from one of the aggressive vendors. Luckily, food was not as awful as its online reputation. Breakfast with a view at Hu Yue Lakeview HotelWe checked out of Hu Yue Lakeview Hotel and started our real sightseeing tour of Sun Moon Lake. How many frogs you see that day would determine how high the water level is. While I was collecting the WiFi, my partner was a short distance away, at another counter collecting our prebooked rental car.
Prices and availability subject to change. If you want to do some exploring, add a trip to Guanshan to your plan. This destination is 9 kilometres to the southwest and is home to the Guanshan Tianho Temple and Guanshan Water Park.
