Celtics are World Champions!!!

Well, for one night, I can forget about all of the problems in live and celebrate the Boston Celtics being crowned world champions!  Wow!  What a dominating game!  It was nice to be such a blow-out so I didn't have a racing heart during the game...however, teh close nail-biter games are always the most memorable. It has been 22 years since the Celtics last won a championship.  When they last won it in 1986, I was still in college.  Of course, at that time, I never thought it would take so long for them to win another one. I became a Celtics fan back in 1973...during the times of John Havlicek, Dave Cowens, and Jo Jo White.  Havlicek was my favorite player.  My most memorable memory as a kid was back in 1975 when, late on a Friday night, I watched the championship series with my dad and Havlicek hit "the shot" to send game #6 against the Phoenix Suns into a 3rd overtime.  The Celtics eventually won and became champs that year. Then, of course, there was the "next generation" of Celtics from the mid-80's...Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, Dennis Johnson, and Danny Ainge.  I was in college at the time and, to be honest, it was boring being a Celtic fan during the regular season...for they were so good...you knew before the season started that they would finish in first and make teh playoffs....and just waited until the championship series. Then, 22 years of "darkness".  The death of Len Bias...who was a first round draft pick and was to be a replacement for Bird/McHale/Parish..set the franchise back.  Then star Reggie Lewis later died of heart failure.  Every year when it looked like they were getting close to being a contender, it seemed like something would happen and they would take a step back. Then they signed two free agents...Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen...and suddenly the expectations were high again.  Initially, I was skeptical.  There are a lot of cases in professional sports where the signing of high-profile free agents turn into major league flops.  However, the "new" Celtics proved initially that they were "for real".  And, tonight they helped the Celtics become world champions!  Ya ho!
