Cee Cee's Journey into Diabetes 2 months
Cee Cee is heading on 2 months with the alien within, diabetes. She didn't appreciate of course shots, would fight me, yelp like I was killing her, hiding her head under the bed. So I researched, which we all are getting good at, for something to help alliviate this behavior. At first I thought I was hurting her and the whole nine yards
I first found something called Inject Eze...you put in the syringe, hold to her skin, click the one button to release the syringe and then manually you push the plunger of the syringe. Well this of course worked, well sorta LOL. She would still move, the needle would come out and of course lost the insulin all within her fur.
So back on the net, searching the doggy support groups, etc and heard about the AutoJect which does it all with one click of the the injector, figured what the heck, how much money have us humans spent for different meters, etc. Only complaint I found was the loud clicking upset some dogs, but my stress level was getting high so I had the company overnight it. Played with it and it has been great, no lost insulin, no yelping, no moving around since I have her lay down first.
Her numbers are great for a doggy, all under 200, some under 100. EXCEPT the morning fasting! Now they say doggies don't have the dawn effect like humans but you will not be able to convince me her body is not having a party in the wee dawn of the morning. I know she can't climb on the counter to raid her snack container (diabetic friendly of course) and I know Daddy is not giving her anything since he is afraid of me and the consequences (the consequences not me lol) (Each morning should be almost 400 even tho the 10pm testing would be under 150 and no snacks.
So me being me, I figured what would hurt if I was to give her only 2 units of the 4 prescribed, what would happen since her insulin is long acting and doesn't hit peak performance until about 5 hr or so. Well sure enough I got a beautiful 127 reading next morning. I was tickled pink. But then thought what if it was a fluke? So for the last 2 wks I have been giving her extra insulin and even allow her one of her special snacks at night and every morning, she has presented me with lovely numbers, no one morning has been higher than 148.
Of course I haven't discussed this with the vets but knowing how they are, knowing my knowledge with diabetes, they won't say anything lol.
But she is back to her bouncy self, even cuddling with us at night in bed and not hiding from me !
