CD17 - IUI Complete ... now 2WW
I went in this morning for my first IUI. I posted questions the last few days because I was getting anxious .. between the Ovidrel shot and I've had some EWCM and cramping after taking the Ovidrel, and I was concerned that I may have ovulated earlier. I understand that it's difficult to pin point exactly when ovulation occurred, and it's difficult for the doctors to narrow it down to such a precise moment. So, let's hope it was just cramping due to the Ovidrel shop and my ovaries working in overdrive to create extra mature follicles ... and hopefully the EWCM was just letting me know I'm ABOUT to ovulate, and that I didn't ovulate too early.
So, about the IUI - some of this may be TMI: I asked my husband to do his business this morning by 7:40, so I could leave by 7:45, and make it to my appointment by 8:00. (We only live a 5-10 minutes from the hospital). As I'm getting out of the shower at 7:30 (I wanted to be sure I was extra-clean for my IUI) ... My DH said he changed his mind, and he would prefer for ME to "do his business" ... he said that he felt left out because all he needs to do is "give his sample" ... and it didn't feel intimate to him. He said if by some small chance this IUI is successful, he would prefer if I "did it" instead of himself ... which I can completely understand and appreciate that he wants to have more of an intimate feeling during it, so if we do conceive, it was at least from a more intimate moment, then him just doing it himself ... but I would have preferred for him to tell me that LAST NIGHT when we were talking about it, instead of 15 minutes before I needed to leave, and I still had to get dressed and ready. ANYWAY, we had our intimate moment together... and the sample was ready by 7:44, I packed his sample in my DH's lunchbox with our monogrammed hand towels we got from our wedding, (3 years ago and this was the first time using them) ... I wanted to make sure they stayed close to body temperature! AND then I ran out the door at 7:45!
I arrived at the office right at 8:00, checked in, and then a few minutes later was called back. I gave them DH's sample, and waited for the doctor. She then came and got me and brought me into their "lab area" and showed me my husbands sample, I looked in the microscope and saw them swimming around! She said he has about 40% motility and grade 3 swimmers, and his sperm count was within the normal range. (She didn't have an exact numbers because it's not a full analysis). They have a method of checking certain things, and as long as they meet those requirement for an IUI then everythings good to go. So, although my DH's motility was on the low side (his morphology has always been the problem) ... she said it was still considered a good sample for an IUI.
I went back to my room, and she came back in 5-10 minutes post-wash and said the numbers were still considered decent/good. I asked her about my concerns of ovulating early, and she said there was really not way of determining if I had in fact ovulated early, or it could just mean my body's getting ready to ovulate. So, we continued with the IUI! It was only slightly more uncomfortable than a PAP, I laid down elevated for 15-20 minutes ... and now comes the 2WW. I start taking Progesterone capsules in a few days and take them until the 2WW is over. If I don't get my period by December 4th, then I'll go in on December 5th for a Beta check.
Our 3rd Wedding Anniversary will be exactly HALFWAY through our 2WW (Nov. 27th) and then with Thanksgiving and family in all weekend, I am hoping that'll be distracting enough to get me through the 2WW, and I've heard the Ovidrel can give a false positive because the HCG can still be in your system ... so I can't even test early if I get anxious!
My sister just sent me a text and wants to go shopping with the boys (my 2 nephews) - 3 1/2 and 19 months. I LOVE them dearly, but my sister doesn't know we did an IUI cycle this month, nor does anyone, other than you ladies, and mu nurse friend who gave me to Ovidrel shot. Her friend (a photography client of mine-I'm photographing the baby in 5-7 days) had a c-section this morning, so she wants to go buy her a newborn outfit, once they tell everyone if it was a boy or girl ... so I'm excited to go shopping with my sister and nephews, but not as thrilled to go pick out a cute baby outfit for her friend!

Yay for your DHs count looking good! I think its really funny that the first time you used your hand towels was to keep DHs sample warm, too freakin funny! I hope you have lots of distractions to keep you busy during your tww, Good luck!
Good luck! I hope the TWW is kind to you, goes by fast, and results in a BFP!! Thanks for sharing your story, it made me chuckle. Especially the part about the towels. This journey really sucks sometimes, but those little stories are the funny parts that help us make light of the situation. Your story reminded me of that :)
