Cautiously Hopeful

The past few months have been filled with change. Change. A Migraine trigger.
My oldest daughter went away to college for the first time in January. Thank God I was able to fly out to help her get settled and the few days there weren't too bad.
When I got home, I began the miserable journey to getting off or Pristiq. I believed that Pristiq had made me worse and not better. I couldn't get up in the morning and had begun to sleep 10+ hours every night and was still feeling exhausted all of the time. I gained about 20 pounds since starting Pristiq and couldn't seem to get any of it off with lifestyle changes.
It was VERY difficult, but I have been off of Pristiq since the end of February, I think, and have lost 15 pounds. I have been trying to eat well and have been walking more every day that I possibly can. As far as depression goes, I think I'm okay. I get down sometimes but who wouldn't having chronic daily migraines?
I tried taking Topamax. I thought it was causing terrible nausea and diarrhea but I've been completely off of it for 10 days and still having GI problems. Recurrance of IBS? Maybe. I also had sudden severe depression while taking Topamax which did disappear when I went off of it. That was scary.
I'm trying a chiropractic program to see if it will help. I've had neck pain longer than I've had migraines and have known for several years that the curviture of my neck is not right (too straight). This program is designed to restore the proper curvature. I have a difficult getting to the appointments 3 times a week. When I have a migraine the last thing I want to do is all that therapy, manipulation, and traction. I think I should stick with this. It's a 12-week program. Surely I can get through that and hopefully it will help.
I also am seeing a new neurologist. Mainly because the one I've been seeing for 10 years is an hour drive away. He also focuses on research and travels a lot and it's tought to get an appointment. I like the doctor I saw this week. She spend a lot of time getting my history and answering questions. I'm starting Tizanidine and Botox for preventative. I hesitate to start these as I was hoping that the chiro treatment would do the trick, but if I'm honest, I'm not convinced that it will.
Which begs the question, "Should I continue with the chiro, or quit and save the $$". I just don't know.
Oh. The chiro says the subluxation causes problems with the function of the nervous system which leads to the problems. The neuro says that the straightening of my neck is likely caused by spasms in the muscles of my neck and would be helped by the anit-spasmodic properties of the Tizanidine. So which really comes first and which treatment will benefit most? Perhaps a combination is the best course.
Will stick with it for now.
