Cautious But Hopeful

I'm totally off insulin. I'm down 30 lbs.. taking glimepiride once a day... my A1C is running around 7 which is not as good as I hope for eventually but I am only taking 2mg glimepiride once a day... right now with my body fighting infection Dr, Farachi said the more recent studies show there is a higher mortality rate with lower blood sugars than with a bit higher... so he wanted me to try to keep my blood sugars between 140 to 180... I've been keeping it pretty much between 120 to 160.... Anyway I really think once I'm cleared perhaps as soon as mid Feb... I can increase my glimepiride to maybe 2mg twice a day or even 4mg twice a day and with watching my carb sugar intake I can get my sugars back in the 100 to 120 range... I have been so scared by this health crisis I've been able to maintain a good low carb - low sugar g diet where I never had been able to... so perhaps God was just slapping me upside the head... LOL

I've been scared to even say I was doing good... My foot still swells but not near as much as it was... I think hopefully its just the surgery trauma... They never did do blood work... Makes me wonder if I even needed the second surgery... or was I just a guinea pig... My foot today looks as bad as far as redness and swelling when the doctor put me in the hospital for the second surgery... I'm probably just paranoid.

I am so glad that you are maintaining your blood sugar so closely! I know that infection can cause it to go to dangerous levels.Sending a prayer your way and hope that you continue to heal and stay safe! Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to take care of ourselves, great job! Keep up the good work! Big hugs....Kathy

Dearest Elissa, I am so glad that you are managing your sugar levels so well! Great job! But I am also concerned about your foot. Just a wild thought, but have you tried ice packs on your foot yet?

You are so brave! I will pray for you, my friend. Warm hugs! xxx

You are doing so well managing what you can and keep trusting what is coming in for you in terms of your foot. You are your best advocate in terms of this and I will never forget my children\'s pediatrician when I felt as if I was becoming a frequent flyer with all of their ear infections, step throats etc. He said that he would rather seem me all of those times than the one time I thought it wasn\'t \"anything\" and then it becomes something so much worse.

Grateful to hear how you are progressing as I\'ve been wondering and Woo HOO on shedding those thirty pounds as that is very significant.

May continued healing BE yours!

(((Hugs))) of care,
XO Joanie

I\'m glad you are doing better. Diabetes is definitely nothing to take lightly. Congratulations on coming off the insulin and losing the weight. That is awesome! If your foot doesn\'t look and feel better soon, please go back and get it checked out. Hugs, Paula

Good news! So happy for your improved blood sugar.
Keep a close eye on your foot, if no improvement soon perhaps a trip to the Dr will be needed. Hugs

Great news on the blood sugar and the weight loss! That\'s a huge deal and I\'m proud of you. Diabetes is such a nasty disease if not treated properly. Even then when someone does everything right, it can still be difficult. I had foot surgery in 2012. It took a good year before my foot wasn\'t swollen. Occasionally it will still swell a little and even get really stiff. I always tell people to NEVER unless no other option to get their feet operated on. Prayers for continued recovery. Much love.
