Catching Up

Well, it's been a little while since I've journaled, since we spent Thanksgiving break with the in-laws. The holiday was better than anticipated (thanks to bottomed-out expectations!), even though there were 9 people & SIL's dog in the house. (My dog was in the kennel, due to his inability to play well with others.) No fights, though my SIL was a little hostile toward my MIL. But that's their problem, not mine.

My one complaint: my husband's been wanting a professional-grade digital camera for some time now. Some were on sale up near my in-laws, so he went & bought one, with one lens kit (out of 3 that he wanted but they didn't have). Him: "I saved $100 on the camera & the lens kit was half price!" Bottom line: the whole deal cost $2,000. Yeah, you read right: 2 grand! (He put it on the joint credit card.) Now, if he were actually doing something photography-wise & actually making some $ to pay for it, I wouldn't care. But his work season is coming to an end with no new income in sight. If he thinks I'm paying more than minimum on the card (when I'm still paying mine that has the chimney, car & dog expenses on it), he's got another thing coming.

Funny, when he & his sister were talking about his work situation, she was like, "you need to find another career." He rejected that idea. I wonder if he is giving up on work altogether, though he says he needs to find something more steady (here we go again). At least he says he doesn't want to rack up student loans again, I'll give him that.

Report cards came out. Daughter got As & Bs. Son only got 1 F (Civics). I told him, "You don't want to get this teacher again, do you? Then you're going to have to pass." (He hates that teacher.) He's actually pulling a B in Algebra & just passing English; hopefully it'll stay that way.

Haven't read "Thriving" since last week, so I need to get back into it. From what I remember (lol), there was a lot about where our motive lies ("good heart/bad heart") & what choices we make ("good direction/bad direction").

I'll be starting my Christmas baking tonight. My hope always springs eternal that I'll have time to "do it all" during the season; it's really a struggle to keep my expectations of myself realistic. However, since I've "gotten rid" of a lot of stuff & the kids are in 1 school (& therefore 1 Christmas concert), maybe there's a chance??? We'll see!
