CAT SIMBA attends school in Portland, Maine//
"Simba, a cat, has been roaming the halls of Westbrook for more than a dozen years. Now, in honor of his loyalty, the 15-year-old feline is set to be honored with an art show inspired by his cuddly nature.
WMTW reports that Simba, who lives nearby,
likes to greet the students at the school's front doors before going classroom-to-classroom to check things out. Senior High School student states,
"Simba will "show up in class and sit on people's text books and just intrude."
But she's not complaining. Everyone in the school seems to dig the cat, who refuses to leave. As superintendent Marc Gousse put it,
"Animals are very warm. They're calming. They bring a sense of peace." (personally, i think animals know more - especially spiritually than humans do).
Good thing, because anyone who's suffered through it knows that high school can be a stressful place. Especially a public high school that is generally a cross between a fashion show and a circus - not much education going on there, and never will be unless they separate the sport and activities program and make it mandatory at a local YMCA NOT at a school. you go to school to LEARN and nothing else.
The students of Westbrook are having an art show featuring portraits of the cat [Simba] that visits their school, on April 4. Simba's owner, Eileen Shutts, is reportedly planning to attend the art show as well.
School art director Carol Conner said, "I just see such an emotional connection and real care about this creature. He has such a calming effect on all of us."
School reps told WMTW that they are careful about keeping Simba away from students with allergies.
Portland, Maine.
LOVE this, would bring out the nice side of so many people attending that crowded highschool, who hate humans and aren't communicative at all with others. bring in a lovely animal and you have a different student body!! the allergy part is the only bad thing.

Now that\'s a nice story, 38lbs. Who knows, maybe Simba the cat could help break down the barriers between people and get them to interact with one another. Cat power!

I love the idea of pets in school! Except for the allergies part. :P Hope you\'re having a good Thursday! *HUGS*
Wow!!! So cool. Yes, animals seem to \'know\' or sense more than us.
GO SIMBA! !!
Animals can help us in so many ways if we only let them. Love this story.

Allergies are not a good thing. :-)
