Cardioversion and meds
This week I went on the flecainide. I took 3 doses and had the most horrible side effects. My lips went numb, like I had novacin, my neck and jaws hurt so bad I couldn't open my mouth and my heart started racing. My EP took me off it quickly. Have been off for 3 days and will call him today to try something else. Frustrating

Hi Shantima,
I am very sorry that the Flacanide did not work for you. I remember my Ep put me on it and the third day I had to go to emergency because of the worst A Fib ever I had. They kept me over night.
I guess it just does not work for some of us and creates extreme side effects.
I hope they are checking your thyroid free T3 hormone too. It can cause A Fib too if it is elevated. Also, please watch your potassium intake from the greens. They give me A Fib too if I have too much of certain greens. Too much vitamin C can be another culprit.
Another out of the main stream idea: Have you considered to see a medical intuative? A good one can give you a good idea where is the source of your A Fib, from your heart, digestive tract or somewhere else. Then, you may have a good starting point where to look. You have to turn every stone and hopefully you will find the answer.
I wish you lots of luck in finding answers for your A Fib.
Take care,
Scott
Thanks Scott, I have done all the things you suggested although I think I need to recheck the thyroid thing with a specialist. I have seen an intuitive but she was unable to answer where she thought it might be originating.
Hi Shantima,
You are welcome. Again, I am so sorry that you are still battling with your A Fib. But, be persistant, you will get there if you don\'t give up looking.
It is a long story, but in short, I started to take Iodoral (iodine) for my thyroid. I have been also taking Synthroid for my thyroid for the past 10 years. Well, after taking iodine for 2 weeks, I noticed I went to a mild permanent A Fib. I knew the iodine makes the Synthroid works better (helps converting T4 to T3 thyroid hormone). The AFib told me I have too much T3 in my blood. So, I stopped taking my Synthroid med. Well, the A Fib stopped.
I am amazed that the doctors do NOT check for T3 thyroid hormone when somebody has A Fib. Several people at work came up up with A Fib. It was because of over-active thyroid. Doctors only check for TSH or T4 but not for T3 which is the active hormone! Hello, is anybody there? I am amazed.
I started to learn about thyroid recently since I was always tired. Not rocket science at all. It is very simple stuff. You just need the right blood tests. So, thyroid is another stone you might want to turn.
As far as medical intuitives, a good one can save you a lot of grief, really. I went to 5 of them before I hit the jackpot. Of course, I did not believe her. But, she was right on the money, my liver was a problem due to eating oily stuff like fish oil, nuts, butter, and cheese. Everything clicked when I saw my 4th Chinese doctor from Beljium :-) He said the same thing. That was when I stopped eating all oily stuff and my A Fib episodes stopped too.
The point I am trying to make is keep looking at every possible cause until hopefully you stumble on the answer. I also went to 13 cardio and EP doctors. I have to confess that at the end I almost gave up. I went to the last Chinese doctor reluctantly based on recommendation of somebody at work. Worse than that, I found out he was an investment banker in Beljium before he went to China and became a doctor :-) Yaaaaaaaaaaaho
So, I did not have any confidence in him to tell me what was wrong with me. But, using all kinds of math, statistics, and Chinese whatever, he correctly pointed out to my liver. He said there is nothing wrong with your heart. Yes, talking about a long and wierd journey to find the answer to my A Fib.
So, keep at it, you will get there :-)
