Captain's Log: Star Date: 01.31.2014
It's going to be a warm day in the Shire, well warm compared to the last few days we've had where the high didn't get far above the 0 degrees level. Today's high is going to reach a scorching 33 degrees with a variable wind.
I went for a driveabout yesterday for the first time in my car since November 12th. It was a picture perfect day and I wish I could've put my top down. It started out by my "usual every other day start the car" routine when I was sitting there in the shade of the car port waiting for the seat warmer to do its thing and wishing I had brought my iPod to listen to some good music. I decided to back her out of the shade so I could absorb some of that beautiful sunshine. As I sat there feeling the heater from my dashboard starting to blow warm air, the crisp winter sun kissing my very white face and my butt feeling the heat, I said to myself, "Self, it's your birthday, lets go for a ride!" I had my wallet on me so I was legal and I didn't have to go back inside and fetch it and go through a SOB moment. I put her in first gear and off I went. She was purring like a pampered kitten and just raring to get in fifth gear. I have a 5 speed manual, 19 year old 318ic BMW convertible, a bit pumped up for extra speed and performance and loves to run like a thoroughbred on Kentucky Derby Day. I call her "Baby", because she is my baby and very spoiled. I know ladies... men and their toys. Especially cars. My 4 year old son adores her and talks to her like a good friend. He always wants to go faster every time he goes for a ride with me. From the back seat he calls out, "Faster, papi, faster!" It always brings a smile to my face when he does. Don't worry folks, I drive very conservatively & safe when my son is in the car. Needless to say, my intention was to just drive to Walmart, pick up some stuff and head back home. Naaaah, as soon as I got on the Tenney Mt. Hi-way, I just kept going right to the interstate on ramp and put her through her paces heading north. You see, the legal speed limit on I-93 is 70 mph. Which means I can go faster! And we have these great long, banked curves and beautiful vista view stretches of highway that's a driver's dream come true. It almost makes me feel I'm back in Bavaria where my car was born. Three hours later, I finally made it to Walmart with a quick stop at Dollar Tree. What a ride! What a day!
If you've never been to New England and driven around the White Mountains of New Hampshire, do yourself a favor and try it out. You will not be disappointed.
Now for my COPD update: My LVRC (Lung Volume Reduction Coil) or LVRV (Lung Volume Reduction Valve) appointment has been pushed back to Feb 24th. I have been feeling good for the last week and I have a Dr's appointment on Feb 5th to get checked out and to do my second PFT. My first PFT was done in December 2011 by my Pulmo in New Orleans and SSDI wants medical information from a NH Dr and a recent PFT as well as the LVRC clinic in Boston. I like the cold weather better than the hot I was going through in St Thomas this past summer and fall. I think I might stay up here indefinitely, Dealing with the NH Welfare system and its staff is a big difference than dealing with any agency in Florida or St Thomas. Its like night and day. Yup, I think I'll hang here for awhile.
I wish nothing but the best to all of you, and together, we will get through this. God speed!

Freddy, I can dig the car ride, especially when your driving such a road worthy vehicle. It sounds like you have acclimated yourself N H quite, well more power to you. I think about you and what is in store for you often, and I pray it all works out exactly how you want it to. Please take care, drive safe. Bill
LMAO -- I get the Star Trek reference. LOL LOL, I wrote about mine in a recent blog post. Take care -- Bill
