Der Mck,
Cannot believe you are still getting snow- and all day. We\'ve had dramatic weather - just finished telling a DS friend that we don\'t get hurricanes (& they are called cyclones in SW.Pacific!) than we had such a perfect storm that the Wealther Bureau didn\'t know what to call the category above storm - so called it a Hurricane! I was fortunate - no structural damage, but friend Helen had neighbour\'s roof fly through her kitchen window: we were all in bed - little sleep - bloke next door says his window was swaying almost 3 inches. I have a high window above my bed - so scared I was stuck, so got under the duvet, & hoped I\'d be protected from glass if it went in! Next morning, the whole backyard was covered in peaches: apples & walnuts stripped from neighbor\'s trees. Madly preserving (art I learned in Quebec - we used to go & get 32 lb. carrots, 64 of Patates and 32 Onions. I didn\'t treat the carrots: they dessicated in the basement: friend then showed me how to parboil & pack in freezer bags, & extract air with straw. I\'ve been doing preserving all day - my back is killing me, but have made great use of gift from the skies. Several friends want to come over & get some - one woman in Alaska, feeling blue, was quite rapt in the idea of picking up fruit - so I invited her over!. There are thousands of Aust. farmers still in grip of drought who\'d be happy to remove all you snow for you! Our major River (on the Mainland) has stopped flowing - it is main source of drinking water for city of 1 million people. Global warming isn\'t just about everything getting warmer - it\'s creating a load of instability. But the sea is warming. We now have Coral growing on northern end of Flinders Island! (it\'s big Island at Eastern end of Bass Strait - between Tasmanian & the Mainland - 40 deg. S. I think we should declare war on humvees, get out of Iraq, & use what we have more carefully. I do my bit - take the bus to the city. Turn out lights - have installed 4 of the 18watt long-life power savers, & bought one for a friend who\'s dubious! In the meantime, we are worried - how long will the water in the Lakes last - we are a Hydro system, only 1 diesel power plant -obsolete. I\'m so worried for my g\'kids. I wax philosophical early in the morning. Good to hear from you, Fond regards, JaneD.
Oh No more snow, there are only lil patches of snow left here, well please don\'t get sick, keep warm because we care about you. Enjoy the weekend indoors. It will melt eventually. Maybe.
