Busy Mode
My sweet husband has observed, pretty accurately, that I have three modes: busy, hungry, and sleepy. I go go go go go go go -- and can't just sit and relax -- until I suddenly get hungry. BAM! (as Emeril would say). And when I've eaten, another BAM: I'm sleepy. Once James made the observation, I was amused to watch myself go through this same thing day after day. For the last couple of months, my normal cycle has been thwarted, since I have not been sleepy exactly (not beyond the 14 hours I'm actually sleeping per day), but I've been either too weak or too nauseated to actually get up and do anything. I was even too tired to lift my hands to the laptop. And of course the hunger doesn't stick to its place in the cycle either: I'm hungry all the time. So it is with great happiness and relief that I tell you that I have been getting busy. And I mean that in the Rated G sense. Finally I've been able to clean up, to actually do the laundry myself (though I don't always volunteer for that), and yes, do some work for my company (the art quilting thing). Yesterday I made a "Super Reader" cape for a friend of mine who teaches 1st grade reading. The best student that day gets to wear the "SR" cape. That was damn fun. I'll post a picture of that. I've also made 40 handmade invitations for my sister-in-law's baby shower, which my mom and I are holding next month. I cut teddy-bear shaped holes in the front of the cards, then attached a decorative piece of paper to the back of it so it shows through. Then I sewed (with my sewing machine) all around the teddy bear shape to attach it and give it a little flair. Finally, I tied a ribbon from the back to the front of the card, around the bears' necks. I should attach a picture of that too. It took me about to the 30th card to wonder why I had thought they should be so ornate. But damn, it's good to be me again. My mom is on vacation with her three sisters. I really don't need her for my feeding and cleaning the house like I have in the months past, but I do miss her. When I was 14, a freshman in High School, she left our family in Texas and moved to New York City during a mid-life crisis. I thought she'd come back, but she never did. Now I live 2 miles away from her, if that, and this period of disability is the most I've seen her since 1986. It's really a special time. She has been coming over almost every day. Once she asked if I needed anything from the grocery store and I gave her a long list, then I said she didn't have to get all that stuff because I didn't want to impose. She responded that this was her raison-d'etre; she lives for this. So I'm finally getting the mother-daughter time that I missed so much during my teenage years. I never expected something like this to happen, and certainly not so connected with my own transition to motherhood, but I'm really glad it has. I feel very lucky. I think it's therapeutic. It feels good. Now she just has to come back from vacation so she can take James's underwear out of the dryer. Just kidding.

I love reading your journals! I\'m sooo glad you\'re feeling better. I remember the crippling nausea and intense exhaustion from the first trimester- and you\'re doing it times TWO! Yikes... I love your craft pictures too! You sound like me- except you\'re actually GOOD at doing the projects... I\'m, well, full of great ideas that either never come to fruition or turn out way different than I ever pictured in my mind. And by different I mean worse!
I\'m so glad that you and your mom are getting to bond now, especially during this wonderful time in your life!! My mother has had a stroke, and I miss the \"old mom\" I could bond with like that-- but I\'m grateful for the fact that I still HAVE one at all!!
Good luck trying to stay off laundry duty for the next few months. Make up some \"research\" study that tells your husband and mom why the smell of laundry soap can be damaging to a fetus! ;)

How incredible it is that you have your mom so close to you and how you\'ve developed such a unique bond with her. I can\'t imagine how excited she must be for these twins to arrive.
You are quite an angel for making baby shower invitations for your SIL. Does she know how lucky she is?
I sure know how lucky those twins are!
I just have to point out that you sound like a baby...in the sense of having a pattern of behavior that includes wakefulness/business, then hunger, then sleep. Your body is getting you in the mode already to cope when these little ones get here and do the same thing all the time! That\'s great!
