Brenda

I think it is only right if I were to explain my situation. I don't know for sure if it is or not, because this is all still very new to me.

My wife, Brenda, and I met in 1995. I was 20, almost 21 and she was 40. The story of HOW we met is actually kind of funny, but I think that is a story for another time. We lived together starting about 2 months into the relationship. We were married in 2001.

In November of 2013, she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. She went through all the typical chemo, was in the hospital for a month while she went through the treatment. She then, of course, started seeing an oncologist. Starting in January, she started getting chemo shots. Right up til the middle up April, we were told she was in remission.
Towards the end of april, specifically the 23rd of april, she woke up having a bad day. Dizzy, confused, etc. Her blood sugar was very high, 300 +. I called the paramedics and she was taken to the small reginoal hospital near our home. The E.R doc determined she had an infection and her white count was very high. She suggested she be transferred to a hospital with an oncologist on staff, "Just in case".
In hind sight, the E.R doc likely knew the leukemia was back but of course wasn't going to say that.
Bren began going down hill rather quickly. I stayed home the first night she was in the hospital because I assumed she just han a UTI and woould be treated with antibiotics and the like.
By sunday afternoon, she had basically lapsed into a coma. On monday it was determined there was nothing more that coould be done. We stopped the antibiotics because even treating the infection would not fix the underlying issue, the leukemia.
She was transferred to hospice on monday afternoon. On Thursday, May 1st, She passed away.

I\'m terribly sorry to hear about your wife Brenda and your story. You will find a lot of wonderful people here on these boards, and as a caretaker for my husband (now battling relapse aml) myself, I completely understand how difficult this is. I also lost my dad to AML in Jan 2012, if you need to vent...
My deepest apologies for your loss
