Boy do they look old
A good friend of mine invited my wife and I to a retirement party for his wife. She was a postal inspector and had reached retirement age. My friend and I had played baseball and softball together for many years. He also invited 5 or 6 other guys who had been on some of the teams. It was great seeing those guys again, but between you and me, they looked old. (Not like us, huh?) The party was very well attended and I really enjoyed myself. It was wonderful just to get out for a bit. It also was a great ego boost when one of the younger people at the party had me figured for 45 and was shocked to hear I was 60 (give that man another beer!). Of course he was of an age where 45 or 70 is all the same to him.Since the temperature had dropped into the 80's, I was able to attend. Even so, I had to spend about half the time indoors. The dizziness seems to have abated somewhat. As long as I don't move my head too quickly or change position too fast I can pretty well fake my way through things. My hands are still a bit shaky but not too bad. My friends noticed and I became a bigger center of attention than I would have wanted but what can you do? They were all a bit worried but I reassured them that I was in no immediate danger. My friend's wife really enjoyed her party which is terrific because she is such a fine person. She had people with whom she worked there as well as the scruffy crew who were friends of her husband. She effortlessly incorporated both groups together. She's a gracious lady and I hope she has a fine retirement.Although we left a little early, (I was starting to tire), it was a nice day. We all plan to get together again in September. That will be very nice.As you can see, my weekend is off to a great start. I hope yours is too.Tom
