Founder

Boxun is a Chinese-language website that reports news that government and mainstream media don't. Founded by Watson Meng, 博讯 focuses on information that is not widely published in the Chinese press.

One of the first stories that Boxun reported was the investigation into former Chongqing mayor Bo Xilai's embezzlement. Bo Xilai was later sentenced to life in prison.

Several Boxun contributors have been arrested or jailed for writing about sensitive topics. Among them is Liu Feiyu, a prominent Chinese dissident. In addition, Jie Mu was arrested and held in criminal detention for publishing sensitive stories on Boxun.

Last week, state television reported that a member of Boxun's reporting team, Xiang Xiang, had been accused of writing false stories for the website. Xiang admitted to the accusations, according to a statement by the state broadcaster.
News coverage

Boxun News is a Chinese-language website that covers news and entertainment in China. It is a site that has been a target of Chinese government attacks. It is also a source for news on human rights and corruption in China. It is not surprising that the government has tried to squash the site.

It has been reported that the site has been hacked on a regular basis, with 2.3 gigabytes of daily DDoS attacks directed at its servers. Boxun also has been blacklisted by the Great Firewall, which blocks the website from most Chinese citizens. However, it has managed to survive by relying on anonymous sources.

The site has been around for several years, and has received a hefty bump in traffic in recent months. One of the first stories the site covered was the 2003 submarine accident that killed more than 500 Chinese sailors. The site has also been involved in some of the more high-profile scandals in China, including the Bo Xilai scandal.
Attacks on servers

The US-based Chinese-language news site Boxun has been plagued by crippling DDoS attacks on its servers over the last week. The site has had to change hosts twice in the last two weeks. Its stories include speculation supported by anonymous sources.

The attacks were launched by botnets, which are large clusters of connected devices. They are controlled by a central server. They are commonly used in DDoS attacks.

In February 2020, Amazon Web Services suffered a major DoS attack. The attack resulted in the site being down for five hours. In February 2021, the EXMO Cryptocurrency exchange was also targeted.

DDoS attacks are often conducted by nation-states, businesses, and individuals to achieve specific political or personal objectives. A successful DoS attack can bring a system down and encrypt important files. They can also degrade a particular industry sector's ability to function.

Using cell lines from human embryonic stem cells, Boxun performs genome-wide screens to identify genetic targets. Currently, he is working at Fudan University in Shanghai. He has also developed a novel experimental protocol to profile genomic-wide TE insertions in bulk tissue samples. He plans to study the role of somatic TE insertions in human diseases.

Boxun's work has been supported by the Manton Center for Orphan Disease Research. He obtained a PhD in Genetics in 2017. Before that, he completed a one-year postdoctoral training at Meng-Qiu Dong's lab in Beijing. He worked on a project that focused on Huntington's disease. He learned how to perform computational work, and he also gained experience with research on neurological disorders.
