Boundaries Set.... for my mom

I had determined my boundary would be that if my mother ever screamed and yelled at me like she did again today that I would not speak to her again nor have a conversation with her again unless it was in the presence of a counselor. I am holding to that. Of course you do not tell the boundaries to your alcoholic or dry alcoholic. Boundaries are the promises you make to YOURSELF NOT the threats you make to them. Bc they fail to keep their promises. That's what alcoholics do.

So I have decided to 1. record all my phone coversations with my mom from now on when she is upset or on a dry drunk or throwing her tantrums

2. will keep all her text and voice recordings on my phone for a counselor

3. suggest that she get counseling and i will meet her at a counselor's office bc I do not want to deal w/ her screaming any more

4. tell her that all is being recorded ???? Question mark here bc I am not sure if I shld tell her.

So I will not make the initial phone call to talk to her. I think she's on a very big binge this time. She is very depressed and angry . She is impossible to deal with.

She called my husband and made him promise to not tell me that she called. That is WRONG. And my husband did it. She is a manipulator. I'm not mad at my husband but i do not like that. It is getting other ppl involved.

I did tell my brother that she was angry w/ me bc I did not call her this weekend and he said she was mad at him bc he did not go see her. So he's in the same shit boat.

But in the meantime, I'm going to work tomorrow. I do have a bladder and yeast infection and I started some meds tonight that I had left over. I might go on to the doct tomorrow. ick. not fun.

This too shall pass. I just HATE that she does this right before the holidays start to arrive. It almost never fails... and it does in the summer too when she is not teaching. gawd. it just gets old.

It remains yours to sort, but I like small steps, one step at a time for my own recovery process. Big, complicated plans of action spin out of control too easily. Going from weekly contact to never again is a HUGE step. Big enough to be a shock to your system.

I use a smaller step of simply hanging up and/or walking away when the addicts repeatedly violate boundaries I have set with them, I don't even warn them. I just do it and wait for them to bring it up. I responded with, "When I set a boundary, I mean it. I reserve the right to walk away, too. I love you, but I am not going there with you."

This has resulted in many of the addicts dropping out of my life by their own choice, but that is their right. Healing hopes for all. No exceptions.

Gentle support while you find what works for you, Ginger.
