Blue Hole (WHOLE) Theory
My 65th birthday is Tuesday and my Dad's is Thursday. My Dad did not give me hugs, love, support, but he gave me the following memory and I will forever be grateful. WE ARE 'WHOLE' JUST AS WE ARE!
THE BLUE HOLE (WHOLE) THEORY
Growing up in a small Midwest town and being poor, fishing was not only a sport; it became a necessity if one wanted to eat. My family consisted of a Mom, Dad, and 8 children. Feeding 10 people would probably be a challenge for some, but my parents seemed to have a great wisdom when it came to living off the land. There are many memories I hold of Oakford, Il. and many of them are not fond memories; however, one memory that truly resonates with me more than any is fishing trips I would take with my earthly Father to a BEAUTIFUL place called Blue Hole. This story I am about to share with you has become a Metaphor for my life’s journey and I hope after you read it; it will possibly become a Metaphor for you also!
Who wanted to arise at 4:00 a.m., face the cold morning air, walk a levee filled with morning dew, air that would make you shiver, thorns that were very painful, cow chips that were not pleasant, snakes that created much fear, and poison that would make me ill for days. Well, I did. I would have done ANYTHING to get to spend time with my Dad, because that seldom happened.
Gear in tack, smile on face and happiness that could hardly be contained filled my little 10yr. old body. I was getting to spend time with my Dad; better yet, time alone with my Dad. And we are off. Arrival 4:10a.m.; destination: Blue Hole. Next step: gather fishing poles, bait, cushions for boat seats, and of course coffee.
I stand quietly as I wait for my Dad to un-chain the heavy steel gate that protects the entryway to Blue Hole. Now, the levee walk begins. My Dad goes before me (what a safe feeling I have) holding my hand at times, guiding me thru the thorns, cow chips, poison; making sure I was NOT GOING to be hurt! Guiding me, telling me where to step/where not to step; what to not touch; etc. With his guidance, we would safely arrive at our destination!
BLUE HOLE…Beauty beyond imagination. The water glistens’ like diamonds, the color of the water is indescribable; pure silence, trees shimmering ith dew, the silence of unspoken of the beauty. Peace! Peace filled my heart and the world outside me did not exist for a moment in time.
Blue Hole (WHOLE) Theory:
Dad: Something BIGGER will always guide us thru the “darkness” if we are WILLING to TRUST ENOUGH to walk thru it! You can call BIGGER: God, Jesus, Buddha, Higher Power, Holy Spirit, Life Force, Universe, GOOD. etc. The key is to be “aware” and “trust” that something “Bigger” is always guiding us/leading us to our true Home (Blue Hole) where there is Perfect Peace; Perfect Love; OUR AUTHENTIC SELF (Our Spiritual Self).
Levee: Any problem: Divorce, Sickness, Poverty, Lack, Pain, Job Issues, Mental Issues, Fear of Anything, Relationships’, Childhood, Resentments, etc….These are all situations that exist in our humanness; but NOT IN the Truth that lies beyond this physical realm! Separation from this is what creates our confusion; fear.
Blue Hole: Wholeness, Oneness, Absolute Truth, Unchanging, All-ness, Infinite Power. In the place, there is no separation i.e.: black/white, male/female, good/bad, Fundamentalist/New Age, Buddhist/Muslim/Christian, etc. It just IS!
HOW TO MAKE THE CONNECTION TO THIS POWER:
Baiting Our Own Hook: Dad taught me to bait my own hook.
No one can bait your hook for you, you much do this yourself.
Silence: “Be still and know that I AM GOD/GOOD!” This requires much “patience.” In order to “catch” Divine Ideas or hear the voice of God/Good, we must be willing to be still; and being still, requires patience.
FISH: Fish represent Divine Ideas. Divine Ideas will come if you are willing to “bait your hook” let go of your “small self” or as many call it, your “Ego/Pride!” and “WAIT” for the Fish (Divine Idea) to bite.
There were many days the fish did not bite, but eventually they did. The journey of the levee (walking thru our fears), the trust in a Higher Power of your choosing, the dedication to ‘baiting your own hook’ , being still and being patient, letting go of wanting the fish to ‘bite’ in your timing (not God’s) is the key to a wonderful day at Blue Hole.
Are you willing to do the work? Are you willing to take that trip down the Levee? Are you willing to receive the many gifts that are yours and just waiting to be caught? YOU, my friend, must make the choice. I AM WILLING!

This is beautiful and I agree with it all. It\'s a very special memory Vicki and like this memory, I do remember some good things about my dad too. He was such an adventurer...travelling the world now in his retirement. He never sat still for long...he really go out there into the world, taking his 5 kids sailing and across Europe camping in the summer (can\'t have been easy). Tonight I honour those memories. Thank you xxxx
Wonderful story. It\'s good to cherish memories like these.
