Blessed
I am so grateful for this day. It was raining when we left this morning around 10am. Within about 30 minutes though we were out of the rain and it was a beautiful day. There were lovely homes and nice gently rolling hills and it was a great drive... We were driving up to Natchez to meet with Julia and Billy for lunch at a place called Fat Mama's Tamales. Love the name and I really got a kick out of the place. They had like 25 or so signs on this pole with the names of various places around the globe and how many miles to them... places like Ireland, Australia, Hawaii, San Francisco... that one for sure caught my eye... won't be long we'll be going to San Francisco... The signs were really colorful and kind of lifted my spirits. Then there was the bottle tree... just a tree with a bunch of colorful empty beer bottles... different kinds.... a whimsical amusing tree... My spirits were quite bright anyway. I have been talking to Julia for a while now... and she is just an amazing person. I knew from her pictures she's just a warm radiant person. I loved her hair and I'm looking for someone to do mine like it. Its a nice red, not brassy... but quite like sunlight and then she's got the blond touches all through... Yup gotta copycat... I'm not a huggy person but I hugged her and before we left I hugged Billy too... I felt that good about them. I can't wait till we get together again.
On the way home we stopped and took pictures of a place called Mammy's Cupboard. I'm sorry that some people might find Mammy's Cupboard offensive. The building is built under a figure of a Mammy. I totally get that many people of color who were made mammy's didn't have a choice in the matter... That time period is a part of our history... and gratefully when I think of a person who acted as a mammy I think of someone warm, loving, nurturing... to all the children around her both black and white... or as the song says... red and yellow, black and white... all are precious in his sight... and in mine too... So I just want to say if you find my liking of Mammy's Cupboard design wrong please understand why I don't find it offensive... I didn't live your life and perhaps I'm wrong... but I must be myself and not whatever or whoever people want to tell me to be...

What a great day! You deserved it. I am so glad you were able to meet Julia! I now know how to recognize her in Tahoe!!
I am Canadian so probably do not understand the nuances. I too view mammy\'s as loving, caring people - that is often how they are portrayed in old movies e.g. Gone with the Wind. I do abhor racisim - and I am sorry to say it is alive and well here too; perhaps not as blatant but it is here.
I hope the wonderful visit with Julia and Billy buoys you through the week!

Grateful the two of you could meet and that it was such a happy day for you. There is just nothing like being in one another\'s company and as I said to Julia I have a sense and hope this is just one of many to come. :)

I tried to be a \"copycat\" myself with my hair.....but it back fired! LOL! Having a \"redo\" this afternoon. If at first you don\'t succeed!!!
I love the whole idea of a mammy....maybe I\'ve made it into a \"fantasy\" more than what history shows was a reality, but like you, I see so much love and compassion and care coming from the sweet, round mammies (who would want a skinny mammy!), of the world. I thank God for each of them and wish I\'d had my own! One of my very favorite movies is Song of the South. Many find it offensive, and I guess I can their point, but to me, it\'s all about love and friendship and trust and compassion.
