Blame the Victim!
I am so tired of living in a "blame the victim" society. You know, I deal with pain daily, we all do. And I make a special point of NEVER comparing pain. But when I am with people that want to play the one upmanship game. They spend their whole time trying to convince me that THEY have more pain than me. O.K. maybe they do. I don't mind. There always seems to be enough pain to go around. But the underlying text of this is who am I to get off taking disability when THEY are perfectly able to go to work. I hate being viewed as a wimp, as a user of society. Trust me, if I could work, I would. I loved my job, dearly. And I will miss it every day until I die. But my Dr. flat out told me I would not get better until I made a total life style change, that means stopping work. And she was right. I am slowly gettling better, but I know if I returned to work, it would be worse than before. Since I've been awarded disability, well I guess other people saw it that way too. But stop blaming me for my disease, stop blaming me for getting disability, and stop trying to drop little digs about, you better watch out, the disability people are going to be watching you and know what you do! The disability people are welcome to view my life any day! The most frustrating thing of all is at this time when I am feeling most vunerable, I am losing friends because I don't want to play the blame the victim game.
