Birthday Celebration
All of us siblings gathered at my sister's house to celebrate my younger brother's birthday. We all traveled from different parts of the country in order to make this happen, my brother traveling the farthest distance, a trip of 9 hours. I also brought my dad. This has been hard on him. He tells me that he has lived too long now. My sister was smiling so much....she was so happy to see us and so upbeat. She had made a birthday cake for my brother. I brought a picnic lunch, but my sister insisted in setting the table with her good china that had been my mother's. Each day now is a celebration of life.
After lunch, my sister, brothers, and dad took a walk to the nearby lake. My sister told my father how lucky she is to live somewhere that is so close to such a beautiful place. I couldn't help but think how much she looks like an angel. She's so pretty, you would never guess what a battle she has fought. She will start in an experimental program next week. I saw the results of her scan yesterday. Her cancer has spread so much in just a few months (it's even in her colon and chest muscles now), we cannot allow ourselves much hope, but perhaps the info learned will help others.
