Bipolar disorder
Hello, My name is Anne. My 26 yr old son has been diag.with bipolr he is also addicted to drugs/alcohol. He has been to many rehabs over last 10 yrs. We did not address his bipolar until about 19 mos ago when we read some books. My husbands way of treating our son is to ridicule, threaten ect. when he does not act as expected. He thinks after reading the book he should understand and take care of problem. What is right should we do tough love and refuse to help or should we get him a better psychiatris? He has trouble with law also. My mind is mush I can't explain what I'm asking. Hope you get the gist. Thank you

My son is also 26,and was bp ,3 yrs ago. He also has 2 beautiful boys. BP is a terrible illness and it can rip families apart . Always love but its hard sometimes to be able to let go of the people we love even if it is in their best interest. Weve been letting go as parents from the minute they were born , letting go of their hand to let them walk o their own ,letting go the 1st day of school even tho it broke our hearts, the first car ride all by themselves. Moving out to go to college or marriage. Its all very hard letting go but we did it. I guess sometimes we have to ,LET GO AND LET GOD. Believe me I know its not easy but no one in my life ever told me life was gonna be easy. Bye for now.
Thank you lori 1522 I \'hear\' everything you said. One day at a time is perfect....I wish I could make myself learn. At the moment my son is in a county run drug farm...he is not on any med at all & seems do be doing very well. I pray that this will last..but a horrible voice in my mind keeps wondering?
My son is now 32 nothing has changed. He is on meds but not sure if they help him I think he is using something. He is denying he has a problem. Don\'t know how to help him. He lives at home!. i\'m depressed.
