Big race Tomorrow
Hey, team.
I am prepped for tomorow's 5K. I have worked hard for this moment.
My son, has not. But he pretty much equalled my time last night on the 2.5 mile loop. I don't know how he does it. One side of me cries the old it's-snot-fair song, the other is he-is-amazing. If he beats my daughter (which i feel he has a good shot at) who trains and runs on her cross-country team, the whole planet (except your part, i'm sure) will be turned upside-down. My daughter had a meet Wednesday and finished second out of 40 participants. That's awesome. But if the boy finishes ahead of her, well, there's no explanation.
Now my wife fears that she will be left in the dust. But that's her deal. She didn't train nearly enough, she is out of shape still, so I hope she at least enjoys the day.
But lemme elaborate...the history here is that I had read time and time again (I'm sure that you have read this too) how exercise is supposed to help your mood. I had found this as total bullshit. Nothing seemed to work. I started jogging to lower my blood pressure, adn then my friend had roped me into this 5k business, we turned it into a family event, and after I finished the race I hadn't felt so good in years. YEARS. Now I am kind of a fanatic about it. It really feels good. I had forgotten what good feels like. But I must say that I guess I didn't exercise hard enough. I took a karate class and it didn't help. I do my usual 2.5 mile run and it didn't help. So I guess I really gotta work herd for it. And I am.
bad news is that I am still not sleeping well. Usually, the way I operate, by Tuesday I am drained, Wednesday I ask why-oh-why deos this have to happen, thursday I am hopeful, Friday i am nearly recovered. I still don't feel great.
Remnants of a tropical storm is heading here today. Some areas got 6" (15cm) of rain, and we should get similar. It shoudl mostly fall during the morning which means flash floods. In April I took a day off from work to seal a crack in the basement, and finally I get a chance to test it out, but not like this!! It's gotta come sometime, I guess.
Went to the doctor yesterday to see aboutmy frequent nosebleeds. I feel liek such a nred talking abotu this, but the doctor was a bigger nerd than I, so I guess we're even. The result so far is that my nose is all messed up, hesaid that it'll take a few weeks for his work to kick in. I have no clue. right now it seems pretty messy in there, and it itches like hell. I don't have a lot of faith in his work right now, though he is a well-respected doc.
that's about it. I suppose that's good. No introspective nonsense, no self-pity. Just plain freaking tired.
have a great weekend. I need to tell you all more about myself, since i am sure (I have been there myself) after reading this you are all pessimistic about my journal. that's okay. After decades of feeling miserable, and seeing how it affects my innocent children, I need to be the responsible adult and try to make things work. It seems to be an insurmountable task, but I am making progress I feel, after 5 years of hard work, though my wife may not agree. She doesn't even think I am dysthymic. she even had doubts about my depression, way back when, so you understand when I say that I can't rely on her for support.
