BIG NEWS!!!!
Brief history... when I was 12, my parents divorced, and it was UGLY. At its worst, my father came over, tried to beat my mother to death in front of us kids and I was the one who called the police. From that point on, I'll admit... I was an emotional MESS. I couldn't trust anyone (especially men), felt like I had to grow up IMMEDIATELY just to survive. That's not to say I didn't have much of a childhood - that was when I began biking (still a love) and I would disappear on 5, 10 mile bicycle rides to get away from the stress.
Mom struggled to support us... no job and 4 kids - I was the oldest. If it weren't for my grandfather's generosity, we all would have been homeless. But he paid off the mortgage ($4,000 back then - sorry, lol, dating myself), and Mom brought in food by doing upholstery work out of the house. In the beginning, it was my job to tear apart the furniture and Mom would put it all back together to make it beautiful. As I grew, I learned how to refinish furniture, then I became the delivery person.... I learned self-sufficiency. In fact, I'm planning to do some upholstery of my own in the near future...
So back to when I was 12... when I would tear apart the furniture, it was like a treasure hunt. Luckily, we never had any that had bugs, mice or spiders in them. But, I WOULD find toys, playing cards and coins.
It was the coins that interested me the most. OLD coins. Usually pennies or nickels that were dated between 1920 and 1940. And because that was one of the few times I had fun in my childhood, I kept them all and over the years added more... $2 bills, gold coins, lots of Susan B Anthony's (because she represents freedom and independence for women)....
During the divorce, I learned the X stole them all... used them to pay for booze. When I looked in the container I kept them in, it was empty... And I was devastated.
Over the past 4 months, some of the coins have showed up at my office. Why did I notice them when no one else did? Because I still love looking for old coins and when it was quiet, I'd look at dates, lol. So far, the oldest has been from 1939 and they're all pennies...
TODAY, my hiking buddy canceled our outing; there's a fire up in the forest and the winds are so strong it's not safe to go out there today; so I'm indoors with the dogs and just cleaning. I've been doing some rearranging... moved furniture around, redid the bedroom (yep, it's getting closer and closer to my goals on this)... and I decided to clean out the drawers of my dressing table where I take out my contacts. So, I pulled out everything, just played with it and went through what I had in there... and I FOUND...
THE COIN. The one I was most devastated about having lost... the one that meant the best of my childhood... A Buffalo Head nickel from the 1800's.
I don't understand why it was there... don't understand why it wasn't with the rest. But you know, it doesn't matter, because it's HERE. THANK YOU, LORD!

Wow! Amazing!
I love old coins too! Love to look at coins to find the really old ones. This was a really good background story. I appreciate what it took to put it into words. I am so glad you are here at DS. And that you found your favorite coin!
(((HUGS)))
I have the real silver coins. Not the ones we use now and real copper pennies, real silver dollars. I know how happy you were to find that missing coin.
Well, I think you thanked the right giver of the gift. Personally, I think God just gives us something every once in a while to lift us. That is so wonderful. I\'m doing my happy dance now!!!
