Big fight!
I really hate arguing with people because I hate confrontations and I avoid them as much as possible. I think it has alot to do with codependant issues, also, I'm a lover, not a fighter!
It all started when I got rid of my Hughesnet internet service. They are not reliable and they are also expensive as well. My neighbor has verizon and seems to like it ok so I went to the verizon store and talked to the lady and I told her I had a home based internet business and I needed broadband service. She said for $50 per month, I could download 5 gigs.
Now at the time, I did not know the difference between a gig and a meg. Hughesnet allowed me 400 megs a day and I seldom went over. Had I known how many megs there were in a gig, I could have figured out at the time that it was nowhere near enough.
I said are you sure thats enough for me and she was quite sure I would never go over, "Thats alot!" she reassured me.
To make a long story short, I got my first months bill and it was $240. Apparently I had gone over just a litle lol
I called up customer service for verizon and he recommeded, Cable tv. That worked out pretty good for me because I didn't have any tv at the time. Plus I have unlimited download! I was pretty happy. The customer service guy for verizon told me the store will not charge me the early termination fee because Verizon has no plans to meet my needs.
So I went to the store today to take the little verizon box back and to cancel my service and what do you think is the first thing the ladt told me? Yep! That I would be charged $300 for early termination of the contract.
I said no no no no no! The customer service guy for verizon said I wouldn't be charged. Her reply was, well he gave you the wrong information. So I went ballistic and there were customers in the store. The one thing I hate the most, and I am an easy going guy, is to be lied to. She offered to call customer service and I was ecstatic and at first they agreed with her so she handed me the phone with a smile on her face and I told him what I had been told, that Verizon cannot meet my needs. Then I told him even the verizon representative recommended cable to me!
So the guy put me on hold to talk to his boss. He came back and ask to speak to the lady next to me who was also the store owner. Apparently, they split the $300 early termination fee they charge and the guy evidently worked out something so the lady would be reimbursed somehow, then she gave the phone back to me and the guy told me I would not be charged.
That was all I needed to hear and I walked out the door after the lady said something nasty to me which I just ignored.
I use to have direct tv but they were getting way to expensive for me so they got canceled. Now I pretty much get tv and internet for just a few dollers more then what I was paying direct tv.
A coyote is a very gentle, docile creature, unless you get him cornered, Then, he will attack. Thats similar to what I felt like today at the Verizon store.
I feel pretty good for having won the fight but I hated every minute of it. It's not me at all. I dislike situations like that and thankfully they are very few and far between.
Hope you all have a great weekend!

I\'ve had to do that too and I hate it. You get more from Verizon by calling customer service than dealing with people in the store.
You did the right thing and they are trying to work with you.
Sometimes you just have to stick up for yourself! Good job...
Even lovers get their knickers in a knot...when they do they will fight! Fantastic that you got a settlement for the early term. fee and ended up with something that works for you.
Kudos!!! fight back when needed,,,this was needed!
Fighting with words is so exhausting.I hate it!
I go through my cable company for my internet service.I have had it through com cast for 6 years.I never had a problem with it.
Proud of you for holding your ground. Well done!
The more you stand your ground with places that want to charge you, the easier it will become. At least in my case.
Isn\'t it a bitch when you have to fight for everything?! I completely understand how you feel.
Good for you though! Keep going on fighting the good fight! I fight because I have to do it; it\'s innate~just remember how many folks can\'t and/or won\'t fight and you\'ll feel better about confrontations....if I\'m back into a corner, well, let\'s just say: I was born a redhead and I\'ll die a redhead ~ fighting the good fight for myself and others.
Take care.
Peace&Love Franciann
Hi Bob, I\'m glad it finally worked out for you, but I\'m confused with the mg/gig thing. 5 gigs is over 5000 megabytes..
I use mine all the time and barely use a gig each month. That 240.00 bill sounds wrong. If I were to up my plan from 1 gig to 2 gigs it would go from 20 a month to 30 a month. Even when we lost power for days and wireless service was dogging down the system, I did not go over the 2 gigs
What are you downloading?
If I were you, I would look over that bill and talk to them about it.. It seems wrong to me...unless you didn\'t have it encrypted and the whole neighborhood was using your service.
Take care of yourself....
