Big boobs and peace
Today is my son's 15th birthday and I'm very proud of him. He's been through a lot, but he has a family who encourages him, and loves him very much. We took him to Hooters last night, and with all the beautiful girls in their tight fitting clothes he was in heaven. He had his picture taken with almost every server in there.
Things have changed a lot over these years since my ex-wife and I separated. I'd like to think things are getting better all the time, but maybe it's wishful thinking on my part. I do like to hope for the best.
We all got together for my son, and we all put away our pride and differences for the sake of doing something to make someone else happy. I can only hope this will continue to be more common. All sitting around the same table was my ex-wife and I, her parents (my ex-inlaws), my ex-wife's brother, my ex-wife's off-and-on, incredibly needy boyfriend (who I like), my partner Richard, mutual friends of my ex and I and their son who is a friend on my son's... Whew! And all went very well.
My ex-father in law was actually having a full conversation with me. My ex-mother in law (who I know loves me, and truly wants to see both her daughter and I both happy) was gabbing away with my partner Richard. My ex-brother in law was friendly (and closeted) as he usually is. ONE DAY he'll come out, but because of his parent's initial reaction to me, it'll take him a while before he feels safe enough to do it (assuming he ever admits it to himself).
My ex and I used to work in theater with our mutual friends. My ex beat me to the punch and started working with them before I got the chance to. Richard and I went to the opening of their play my wife had directed for. The production was unusual because I know her style and couldn't see her imprint. It was almost as if the play was flying on autopilot, but it's probably my imagination.
Our friends approached me to start working with them again, but I'm hesitant because it would mean the possibility of work directly with my ex at some point. And while I could do it, I wouldn't want any major conflicts, so I'm not sure yet.The best part of the whole evening was the feeling of a unified family for my son. We've gotten together in the past for things, but this time it was different. This was more peaceful... more natural.
Can Détente really turn into lasting peace? I really hope so.
