Beware Online Discounts!
Beware online discounts! I found an order confirmation for an anti-virus program that I didn't order this morning in my e-mail. It had my information that I had only given to one company. I ordered Christmas presents from a catalog online and was told I'd get $10 off my shipping. But there was a catch. I had to join a discount club. They even offered $20 worth of gasoline coupons that I could keep even if I canceled. Well, I forgot about it for a while, my mind not being in good order. It was a total surprise when I got the e-mail. I'd tried to cancel on their website, but it was down "temporarily" every time I went to it. I had to contact my bank to block the charges on my debit card, but, unlike a check where you can stop payment, you can't block a charge on the card. So, I have to get a new card and it will take 5-7 business days to get here. I could cancel the card now, but I need it to buy groceries this weekend. It will be canceled when I activate the new card. I contacted the discount company, by phone this time, and they canceled the account and will refund the charges. Just beware that if a discount is offered, make sure it is coming from the company you're dealing with and NOT an outside company.
