bent pins
So the other day I was manic and tried to work on computers while in this state, which resulted in $300 in damage. I destroyed two quad core processors because my hands were shaking when I removed them from the motherboards and bent the pins so bad that when attempting to bend them back I broke some off. One of them belongs to a customer so I had to replace it with my own money...so now I'm about 200 bucks in debt to my mom. The only good thing is that the one that was mine was an older 140w tdp revision and now I'll have a new 125w revision so I'll be able to overclock even farther. I already reached 4Ghz~ on air, and my heatpipe direct contact cooler is probably going to let me push this cooler chip even farther. I also have a 250cfm PWM fan comming for said cooler. Once I get that I can use my 150cfm fan for exhaust. The main problem is that I wanted to save my money for the new processors coming out in a few weeks. In any case, my quad core OCed to 4+Ghz along with my crossfirex hd 6870s will probably handle BF3 well. I can't wait for that game to come out. It'll be amazing. I'm going to start training with other fps games so I'll maybe actually stand a chance at online play.

Bad days happen, but it sounds to me like you have already hopped back on that horse and are ready to ride. Success is the art of getting up once more than you have fallen.
Most of what I build is for specific purposes. I use the mini-ITX platforms with the made-on Atom 2U processors.
I never really cared for using Socket-A and above. I hate handling the processors for just the reasons you\'ve stated.
I don\'t think an atom processor would give great framerates on newer games lol. Also most newer Intel processors don\'t have pins. It just has tile-like contacts. I just like AMD for the price...funny you should mention socket A, my first build was a socket A athlon XP.
I referenced Socket A because I bent pins on an Athlon...got totally pissed.
I hate ordering something nice and mucking it up on my own...lol.
No, an Atom processor won\'t pull a game console.
But, for my in-home video surveillance and voice-over-ip telephony...and home theater PC...they work well enough.

i don\'t know very much. certainly not as much as I want to. I wish I was better at math so I could study computer science or electronic engineering. If I start doing better and getting more stable, I think I\'ll take some refresher courses in math so I can.
Many community colleges offer remedial math for free or certainly at a low cost. You might want to see what you can find there in your state.
