Belly Button Makeover

In four weeks I am having surgery to repair an umbilical hernia.
I am not particularly concerned about the op although I'm guessing the recovery will be a pain in the butt. The surgeon cheerfully told me that I could live with it for 20 years but that it could strangulate tomorrow.....so I figure that while I am 'well' I will have it done.
I have to balance the stress of having the op against the niggling worry that I am living with a potential problem which may necessitate a trip to ER if anything happened. 
 
I wonder if the surgeon could insert a belly button ring while he's there?
