Being ill in Maine
I am on my 3rd psychologist, my 3rd primary care physician, and have spent years trying to get proper treatment for myself.
It is nearly impossible to find a psychiatrist in the state of Maine!
Physicians of all ilks in Maine feel that it is appropriate to tell patients that if they are late for an appointment they will be rescheduled, even if they are being treated for life threatening illnesses or have had to travel for over 2 hours to get to the doctor's office.
I have switched from both of the primary care physicians that I switched from because of fundamental incompetence in their diagnosis of my illness, causing me not only a great deal of time and money (as all doctors charge a bizzillion dollars for everything), but a great deal of pain and suffering.
The 3rd doctor isn't working out either.
I have called dozens of psychiatrists' offices, to no avail. there does not seem to be a psychiatrist within 100 miles of me that is both taking Mainecare coverage and new patients. If I am lucky enough to find one, I guarantee that they are going to make me wait months to get in to see them, and I am in no way confident that any that I find will be competant as I have had trouble finding a competant anything up here.
I really, really do not like Maine....
