Behavior at home vs school
It is frustrating to see my son be very good at home and absolutely terrible at school. I know he can do it, I just can't seem to find the motivation. School has been out for a week now and he had the most perfect week at home. I am dreading the 5th when he goes back. We started him on a new med last, hard to tell if it works or not since we do not usually have issues at home. he took it everyday last week and he said it didn't aggitate him, we didn't see any apparent side effects, hopefully this will be the one that is able to help him control his impulses!

I have to chose the best school for my son to attend 8th grade next year and it appears that the alternative school is going to be it. I am dreading telling him. He is going to freak out! It\'s one more thing he\'ll think I am doing behind his back. But I have to do what\'s best for him. I confirmed his current Reading level with his resource teacher yesterday in the meeting. 4th Grade. And they wonder why he is refusing to participate in English. They are studying Greek Mythology! Give that book to any 4th grader and of course they aren\'t going to be able to read it or understand it. I\'m tired of them saying it\'s the ODD. Yes, it\'s the ODD, but his inability to Read is so very frustrating for him it is causing his ODD to act up so he acts out! I get it, it is so obvious. Why can\'t they get it. I really hate the end of the school year, things get so intense. I hope I am making the right decision. I wish my husband was able to sit in on these meeting with me and go to the therapist with me so I have someone to talk to about this and help me make the decision. Now if we find it is the wrong decision my husband will be sure to blame me. God, help me through the next 5 years!
After all that I have been through with my son over the past few years I know what I want to do with my life now. I want to get my degree in psychology or human services and advocate for children like my son in school and help parents come to terms with their children\'s disorder so they can help them. I don\'t anyone to go through what I have for so long. I don\'t want people to feel lost, confused or angry because no one will tell them how to handle or what to do. I have asked so many people that and I just get shrugged shoulders. I am learning so much in my parenting class and in being my son\'s advocate...yes, I am getting better at it. The director of the alternative school told me that my son was lucky to have a parent like me that is advocating for him. I didnt realize that was what I was doing, I thought I was just helping my son like I am supposed to. She said very few parents do this. I can\'t imagine not doing anything when I know how stressed and overwhelmed my son is at school.
I broke the news to my son about going to alternative school next year. he wasn\'t happy about it and may come back to me later to yell about it, but when I told him he just simple stated his displeasure and asked me to leave his room. Okay, he told me to get out, but he didn\'t say get out Bitch! That\'s pretty good for him. i looked in on him about 20 minutes later and asked him if he was okay, he said yes. That was it. let\'s hope he sees that this is best for him.
Wow! I was REALLY to read your first comments about seeing your son be so good at home but then terrible at school cause that\'s what we see from our guy! I truly started to think I was delusional cause I don\'t see the same challenging behaviours at home that the school sees. That doesn\'t mean we\'ve never had our struggles but it seems that we\'ve found an effective way to be his parents....sure wish he came with an operator\'s manual!
*oops! meant to write \"REALLY happy\"! my bad.
