Becoming discouraged

I spoke to my mother today, and she told me that there are no jobs in Rhode Island. This is her expert opinion, based upon the fact that my brother has been out of work for a few years now. She claims that her information base is bigger than that, and she does listen to the news, but she seems determined to convince me that there is no way that I will find a job when I move back to Rhode Island.
Well, I have been checking through ProJo.com, Monster, etc. and there are, indeed, jobs available. About 50 times the jobs available up here in Maine. I have been looking for a job for 4 1/2 years, ever since I moved to Maine, and it is infrequent that I find anything to even apply for up her. I've only managed to get 3 interviews in all that time and have applied for more than 2 dozen jobs.
That is spread out over 4 1/2 years. I could do that in 2 weeks in Providence. There may not be a glut of jobs available, but they are out there and I am determined to find one at the earliest convenience. Maybe, if I can get a job, relocating will be a bit easier.
All my life, no matter what I wanted to do, from the smallest thing to the largest, that woman has been waiting with her expert opinion on why I was going to fail. It is a wonder that I have ever accomplished anything.
