Beauty and the Beast Cast Announces Beauty and the Beast Foundation
Beauty and the Beast is a classic Disney animated film, and the original French fairy tale was inspired by a real story of a prince and his maiden. The story began in 15th century France, when Petrus Gonsalvus married Catherine. Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont revised the story 16 years later, which was geared toward a young audience. The new movie is set in the mid to late 1700s, and the actors' costumes and accents reflect that period.
Eddie Redmayne, best known for his roles in "Downton Abbey" and "The Guest," will play the loyal maitre d' to the Beast. He also has starred in "The Hobbit" and the "High-Rise" films. In the movie, Redmayne will play a town hero who is obsessed with his own appearance. His performance is reminiscent of the narcissistic Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies.
Emma Watson is cast as the headstrong Belle. She embodies a feminist Disney character, refusing to wear a corset under the iconic yellow dress. She said she wanted to be an "active" princess and did not want a corset to restrict her movement. However, despite her feminist stance, Watson did not budge from her original vision for the film. In fact, she has given several brief snippets of her singing to fans on social media.
The 1991 animated movie, originally titled Beauty and the Beast, was directed by Bill Condon. The film earned two Academy Awards and grossed more than $331 million worldwide. The movie also received widespread critical acclaim for its musical numbers and animated style. It also won a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. A remake of the movie is expected to be much more accessible than the 1991 original. So what is it about the classic fairy tale that has earned such popularity?
