BB Guns

Few things are as classic as a BB gun. These low-powered air guns fire plastic or aluminum BBs and are usually classed as toys, although there are many different types. With their simple operation, self-contained power sources (like a tank or piston) and affordable ammunition cost, bb guns are an ideal backyard toy for kids. But BB guns can also be used for competition, target practice and marksmanship instruction, as well as for pest control or small game hunting.

BBs come in a variety of sizes, with a range of different colors and finishes to suit every taste and purpose. Historically, the term BB was applied to the size of shot used in smoothbore shotgun shells. The largest size of shot was called buckshot, while the smaller shots were known as birdshot. In more recent years, copper washed and sintered lead BBs have been introduced, which greatly reduce the danger of ricochet when shot into hard surfaces.

When selecting a BB gun, it is important that the weapon be properly fitted to its user. If a shooter is not comfortable holding and handling the gun, they will not be able to develop good stance, sight alignment, or accuracy. This is just as true for a BB gun as it is for a traditional rimfire or centerfire long gun. In fact, a poorly-fitting BB gun can actually lead to bad shooting habits and even injury.
