Bad day

my boyfriend of 1.5 years broke up with me a few days ago. It was out of the blue and I was very much in love with him and want to be with him. The whole situation is devastating and is breaking my heart over and over again into a million pieces. His excuse for the break up is that I want more from the relationship than he was capable of giving me and that he needs to work on himself and his own mental health. Our relationship was nearly perfect though, we had so much chemistry and connected on every single level. We had the most amazing times spent together and our love was so pure. He would tell me every single day how in love with me he was and how crazy he was about me and how he wanted us to be together forever. All of this was up until days before the breakup. I just don't understand how someone who is supposedly so in love with you, feels as though there is no other option but to end the relationship. I am so broken
