back when i was a cute little twenty something queer power activist i NEVER thought today would come

we had drag ball and kiss ins and pride, we had handfastings, and promise ceremonies, and we had NOLO because you knew you needed four kinds of power of atty, and a will and all kinds of legal documentation to protect your relationship if something should happen and either way you were fucked on taxes and adoption. you wrote letters and letters and op-ed pieces and tried to educate people and dreamed about how nice it would be in a "what if" future, because we knew it would never happen for us. and here 20 years later. i can barely read the screen because that "what if" future is a reality. it's not just gay marriage any more. it's marriage. marriage. period. despite all the republican and faux news dreck 2 people can go to a courthouse and marry and claim the benefits of a permanent partnership before the eyes of the law. how exciting is that????!!!????  wow. sometimes the world is a pretty amazing place.
