Back home and sober
So, I'm back home and trying to stay sober. I've been sober for 10 days now and I'm feeling pretty okay but I'm lonely and bored and I know that is not a good combination. Hopefully I can find some good support and friendship here soon, otherwise I know I won't last.

Hi there ChrisGo
Well done on 10 days. That\'s great. Most of my attempts lasted about 5 days so you are doing really great. I\'m currently at 500-something days which is the best I\'ve ever done since I was 18. I\'m 42 now.
I found the early days the hardest because the memory was so fresh and I was lonely and bored. What I learned to do was to fill my drinking time with other activities. Just pick something that you want to learn or have a go at and do it. And if it is something physical then so much the better, as it will give you a physical outlet for all the frustrations that you are going through. How about a martial art? That will give you a whole new challenge and something really interesting to look forward to. (Speaking from experience here!)
All the best
Brett
My dear friend,
Chris it is indeed a milestone and I think you need to make a chart. Yes, I write down the dates...
1) 1-2-2011
2) 1-3-2011
3) 1-4-2010
I write nine (9) days at a time when I am dealing with a challenge. Each morning, as I read my Scripture and say my Novena (get a prayer) - as a Catholic I used Novena for the Season from a Saint, and I tick the chart. If I mess up, I start a new date, with a new number 1. Then, I have to begin all over again! I hate that, but that\'s the way it is.
You are doing great! You have started a second Novena... your second set of nine (9).
Talk to me if you wish. I didn\'t suffer from alcoholicism but I am codependent too! I will tell you about my addictive behaviors later! Yes, we can run, but we can\'t hide. We all have a battle to overcome!
Don\'t be shy to talk to me. Talking helps. Writing helps.
Be brave.

Brett, thanks for the support, I have been thinking of some activities to fill in the gaps. Can\'t really afford martial arts, though it would be awesome if I could. I will probably get back into weight lifting, maybe P90X, now there\'s a challenge! Anyways, thanks again and I\'ll keep you posted.
Chris
Prosperanta,
Thanks so much for the encouragement, I am indeed counting the days! I\'m Christian myself, though I\'ve never heard of Novena. Sets of nine seems like an interesting prospect. I\'m so used to sets of 30, and to everyone else nothing really seems to count until you do reach 30. Well, thanks again, wish me luck!
Chris
you can do this......... keep holding on!!
