Back from my 35th college reunion - I believe in Angels

I had a pretty good time at the reunion last weekend, a better time than I had at the first reunion I went to 5 years ago. A couple of dear friends were there this time whom I haven't seen in 35 years, although we email & stuff. They didn't come to many events because their son is graduating from another college in the same town, so I only saw them twice - which was nice.
It made me sad to meet spouses, and I have that empty slot next to me. I tried to not let that sadness ruin my enjoyment. We had a 70s dance party and none of my friends were there. I thought my old dancing date would be there, but she arrived with her husband just as they finished the last song. I was talking with a nice couple, and they invited me to dance with them. The wife went across the floor to dance with friends, so I danced with her husband; at least I got to dance :D
Waiting for the train back to NYC, I met a man from Ghana who had traveled all the way to see his son graduate. We had about an hour to kill, so we went to a bar, and talked. Actually we really hit it off, and talked about how I might help him find a way to make better tasting liquor for the lower classes where he lives. Not my normal kind of thing, but we shared phone numbers and emails. I got to meet his son who came to the station unexpectedly before we departed, to sort out some unfinished business, some confusion caused by drama by his mother. I'm glad they had that closure.
I believe in Angels. Not the kind with wings and halos. In the Torah, very few of the angels are physically distinguishable from humans. The Hebrew word for "angel" means simply "messenger" - a being who is delivering a message, from God usually. I think sometimes strangers come into our lives to teach us something, challenge us, guide us, or just to give comfort. Although we both tried to sleep on the trip to NYC because it was a late train, it was comforting to have a companion on the trip.

Ditto and agree . . angels are indeed messengers! We need only ears to listen and eyes to see . . along with a good dose of faith to believe!

You, my friend, are putting yourself out there in amazing ways . . so no doubt amazing things will happen as a result!

So proud of you! I miss Jersey/NY and the trains! So many chance opportunities to meet those of like mind . . not to mention convenience of travel! LOL

Hugs . . keep on that \"late train\" . . .xo, D

Could you be an angel yourself?

My friend, I always enjoyed reading your journal--so nicely detailed and smoothly described like reading a good novel that takes you to a trip on the trace of interesting thoughts and facts. I believe my wife is my angel. I cannot see her but she is always looking after me. We used to have different opinions on different things. Now I find I see more from her perspective and I think that is her in me who is making decision for me. Strange experience but I like it. I feel her in me. My other friend said eventually I will incorporate her in my decision making to make myself a whole. Don\'t know when that will happen but I do help sooner than later as I need to make some decisions soon. Hugs, Tiger

Tiger, I know you are working on animal welfare to honor Yan\'s interests, and maybe through it you will come to understand why she was so passionate about it.

What kept me and Arlene together through all the trials was our shared values, and interests. We rarely argued over important things, which left silly trivial things for the big struggles. I find myself asking myself \"What would Arlene do, or recommend?\" and it\'s nearly always what I would have done anyway.

We were different in personality, though, I think complementary. She was a pessimist, I\'m an optimist. She worried about everything, and said my lack of anxiousness was almost pathological (she was a psychotherapist, so she could say things like that). She had trouble making decisions, partly because of a lot of Libra in her astrological chart. I\'m a Taurus, I make up my mind quickly and it\'s firm, until something changes it.
