Back at Last

Thursday, November 13, 2008 - 7:25 PM A number of things have been going on in my life during the past week.  They have not been earth shattering, but there have been enough things  to make my life a little less calm than usual.   Through a conflict in scheduling, my physical therapy routine was messed up to the point where I missed nearly two weeks of therapy.  Because of that, my muscles have tightened up a lot, and I am having more pain than usual in my back.   Although I do not know who it is, one of my CNAs has been stealing medicine from me.  That person has taken at least forty-five of my pain medication pills.  I am supposed to have a minimum of two pills a day, and had a supply that would have lasted another two weeks, but because of the theft, that cut down the number of my pills to seven.  Because of that, and due to the possibility of my having another UTI, I now have to go see my doctor tomorrow afternoon.   Last Sunday, I went to a birthday party for one of my great-niece's.  The party was at my niece Kathy's new home.  I was (unfairly, I suspect) upset because she now lives in a tri-level house, most of which is inaccessible to me because I use a wheelchair.  The only part I could get into was one small room.  I could see most of the second level, which was visibly open, but I could not get there physically because there were about six steps that I could not surmount.  I am both angry and disappointed at my niece for choosing that particular house when she knows that I cannot get up steps.   Last Friday, I received notification that I had to fill out recertification papers in order to keep my section 8 voucher.  The letter said the papers were supposed to be in within ten days of the date posted at the top of the letter.  Most of those ten days had already passed.  Through a lot of rushing here and there to get copies of bank statements and proof of income, I have now managed to get all of the required material.  It is not due until Monday, but my sister has volunteered to take it in for me tomorrow.  I have accepted her offer.   On Wednesday, I finally got my hearing aids repaired.  My regular audiologist was out of town, but one of her associates took care of everything for me.  It is nice to be able to hear again.   Monday morning, I am supposed to have a conference with my brother at my mental health clinic.  Both my social worker and psychologist will be there as well.  I am not looking forward to this meeting, because I have a fear of my brother.  I am hoping that we will have a lot of snow during the weekend, so that my brother will not be able to get here.  The likelihood of that happening is almost nil.   Earlier this week, I turned on my TV, and immediately saw that my picture was gone, and that it was replaced almost entirely by "snow."  I sat around for a couple of days, while debating whether it was my TV or the cable.  I finally decided to call the cable company, and a repairman was sent out today.  It took him more than an hour to get the cable working again, but at least I have a picture tonight.   I finally managed to get to the leasing office for my apartment complex today.  My lease was to have expired about a month ago, but I was unable to renew the lease while I was in the hospital, and today was the first opportunity I have had to sign all of the necessary papers.  I now have a place to live for another year.

Wow! You HAVE been busy. I think this is the busiest you\'ve been since I\'ve known you here.

And you lived to write about it! (Sorry, couldn\'t resist.)

Brother, schmother. He\'s the one who needs the edu from your meetings, not you. If you were meeting with him with HIS therapist, different story. Not saying that if you do learn something you didn\'t know about your brother that would be a bad thing. But send your fear to the corner for a time out. It\'s just in the way. (I also know, easier said than done.)

That is horrible that the cna is taking your medication.

I am glad that everything worked out with the recertification.

I was gonna say the same thing as Weebs - you sure have been busy!

I couldn\'t help but wonder if the cosmos is working in your favor for a bit. The business is a most excellent distraction from the meeting with the asshole. The Thief.

I think it\'s best to keep a goal in mind. Like, getting your money back so you can have some breathing room to not have to be terrified of financial strain, right?

Geez. There is so much going on here. What did you do about the CNA? What did your Doctor say? How frustrated were you with the CNA? I think the cops should be called. It sends a strong message to others when you won\'t tolerate theft of your medicine.

I think you should just not go to houses like that (your nieces). Can you avoid them or does obligation overwhelm you? It\'s okay to politely decline. It\'s pretty obvious she won\'t mind and if she does, then I say she deserves an irritation.

I never found out which CNA stole my medicine, but I did report it to the head of the home health care agency, as well as to my doctor. I am now keeping this medicine, locked up.
